what kind of RAM?

anybody know what kind of RAM I'll need to max the blue baby with 128meg when it comes? the operator manual doesn't say - I guess it'll be a generic kind, so not buying it from akai will be much cheaper...

On a previous post I made a speculation that the 1000 model MIGHT use 144pin sodimm memory that is found in laptops since it also has a 144pin slot. the question is what speed will be compatible.

exactly, its a 144pin sodimm, but i dont know the mhz...

in fact, akai is trying to make a business out of it. Because you get all kinds of this 144 pin rams for 40 Dollars/Euros. Akai is selling them for 130 Dollars/Euros

I got today a response of the swiss distributor, that these rams for the MPC 1000 are specially made for akai. It seems to be like that, that there is no possiblity to get them cheaper....

Thats **** up, especially in this day and age where alot keboards and samplers are using similar computer componets including memory. damn, if I don't know no better I would say that akai products have been recently following this trend. So why throw us back to the mpc60 propietary memory days? Bad Akai! Bad Akai!

damn I really hope that is not true - on the other hand maybe the distributer don't know his as from his elbow....

It has a dodge Ram. Full size to be exact. I think they come in red.

No wonder the UK distributors keep going out of business: "Don't buy this memory from me, go buy that memory from a competitor. I really do not need the money. While we are at it, you can have this top ten song, royalty free. When you are done, come on over take a few beers from my fridge and f**k the wife. No, I insist."

Does also enjoy shooting himself in the foot? If the distibutor says that other RAM works and it does, that will be fewer orders for memory from Akai, less money in his pocket, and then no raise next year.

maybe they are just not as big assholes as Akai seem to be

do i need to install extra 128 internal ram if i have a 512 mb compact flash ?

If the samples you're using off that compact flash will fill up the 16mb. But if you're starting out with your first mpc, I don't think you're gonna max it out like that. You should cop the machine first and see if you run out of memory before putting the money down on the expansion.
