Just emailed Akai to hear about the lack of Zoning on the MPC1000 - and here's the answer I got back!

"It is being worked on for the next operating system due out soon.

Let me know if that helps.

Man I look forward to it - so damn tired of running all my samples through ReCycle (though it's a great application, I just wanna do all te work on my mpc)

Don't know if the news has been mentioned here before. Couldn't find anything on it.

whoa that's pretty badass, and REALLY unexpected! good looking out man, i'm really surprised you got that kind of response!

i didn't expect that AT ALL!!!! i thought they were gonna keep that off the mpc...since they're doing that, i also wonder if they will be adding timestretch as well since those two terms get thrown around a LOT together....MAN wouldn't that piss off those kids who all sold their 1ks for the 2500......

this is f*cking incredible news.

you can actually zone in the 1000. just not the way you think. check out my video on chopping on the 1k.

yeah. you can. it's just less traditionally easy. i will probably still prefer to use recycle for the most part - but NEVERTHELESS this added flexibility will be real nice. i will NEVER argue the niceness of potential new functions added to the 1k.

sparq, as a fellow mpc1000 scholar, is there any way in hell you could pm me with what you can't mention? annnnny way? i'm dying to know man, this is so exciting for me. my first mpc is growing up...so damn exciting.

this is totally gonna throw everyone for a loop. this numark/akai blend has really kept people guessing...it's good to have new blood in the akai veins, i guess. as someone who wasn't around for the old school mpcs, i can't say whether or not it's a great thing, but for me...it's an utter joy.

If and when this does come through, it will be pretty cool. I will laugh at the peeps who weren't patient enough to wait and see what the new update for the 1k will be like, and then decide if the 2500 is a better choice or not. Its all good the 1k is great for me, so anything extra (timestretch, zoning, hard drive, are just added bonuses) to an already great machine.

where is that video at?

i dotn believe it, man if i worked at akai help and support, and i was getting complaints every other day about the same requests, i'd respond in a misleading way. its cool if we get it, but i bet 10$ to 1$ that we wont.

if we do get it, its probly becasye they are tryign to replace the 2kxl. if we got zoning, we'd probly get time stretch and some other valued fatures eventaully, bacily putting the 2kxl out to date and off the line. thats fine though, cause why else would they release this 2500?

weel see. i hope your right,

Very true extract does work like a charm, but I ain't gonig to complain if it does get thrown our way. One reason why i don't complain..... Is that I chop on the ASR 10, so the 1k in comparison to that is a breeze the way it is. But its all good. just like most on here I'll still love my machine whatever the outcome for the update is.

zoning - automatically chops the sample into as many as 16 parts and auto-assign them to pads.

extract - manually chopping the sample and taking out what you want and manually assigning to pads.

Ok got it thanks man.

How well does zoning work I mean how does it know when and how to chop the the sample? Do you usally want to make the sample like 4 bars and then zone that, so it comes out even? or does it look for the peaks automatically?

Zoning also really helps when you want to chop up loops and drum breaks. It cuts up your samples into pieces that are all the exact same length so you can freely move around pieces for variation when your sequencing and not have to worry about timing issues since the pieces you move around are the exact same size.

You can also move the slicesbackward and forward at your will and make those chops irregular too. It's really handy actually.

If Akai puts in Delay as well, I might just keep the 1k around even though I already replaced it with something totally different, and which I like working on a lot better.
