Replacement data wheel

My MPC's data whell is starting to slip. Sometimes it doesn't act like it is meant to. Sometimes when I turn it nothing happens on the screen until I wiggle is a bit. Has anyone had a similar problem and needed to replace it?

Is it a big job to replace the data wheel?

I think most, if not all 2KXLs have datawheels that will occasionally not react if you move it a notch, or sometimes it'll skip several values even when you might've only turned it one or two.
Everything you said before the 'wiggle' part made me think this was the case, but if you can turn the wheel 180 or more degrees and it doesn't do anything until you wiggle it then you might have a problem.
I'd be onto the guys ta VSTservice.com pronto.

i just mailed my mpc in to vstservice.com for that exact problem. they say it's like $8 to replace with $65/hour for labor.

did u ask them if they could just sell you the wheel? since it's only $8 i would buy it and put it on myself.

Thanks for this info guys, im gonna contact them shortly and see if they can just send the wheel.

(My unit took a hit during transit and now it dosent step anymore but is just free spinning. It works if you pull it up and spin but thats really annoying!)

Same here, my mpc took a hit as well with shipment when i bought via ebay.

I ordered a new data wheel encoder with vstservice.

It's 9$ and 25$ shipping to belgium.

vst.com is your parts place for all mpcs. call nick at vst. the variation slider and the wheel are the 2 most common problems with the 2kxl. its simple to fix i had to replace both v slider and the wheel on mine.

And you hooked them both up real good too brodita!! I was joking earlier about my 2500. I should have it by Tuesday. Holla at me playa!

please give me an update, was VST able to send just the part you need? or did you have to ship out your MPC to them?

how much did it end up costing?

anybody manage to fix it themselves?


sombody said they ordered the part from VST but I don't see any jog wheels in the replacment parts section?

This happened to my friend:
He went to get a new antenna for his cellphone, the antenna was $8 then the guy at the desk was like here gimme your phone, he screwed in the antenna and charged him $50 for the part and labour of screwing it in.
Just buy the wheel and do it yourself.
