Has anyone tested out the new OS X version of Recycle Beta 2.1? I was so amped to use that, my G4 and soon the MPC1000. But I read some wackness on Propellerheads site stating how "Again, we encourage and help you to replace hardware." What!!! What about us hardware sampler users? I'm sure they don't think everyone is a laptop jockey, me hopes.

Propellerhead is dropping support for the old rack units like E-MU and Yamaha in the next version of ReCycle. It's about time, I guess. Interest in them is practically dead. The few hardware samplers that remain are much more expensive than Mach 5 and SampleTank XL. Software samplers do much more than the old racks and with expanded polyphony. I don't care for laptops much. Unless I am working with at least one 21" monitor I feel cramped.

I have to say that is the most stupid thing I have heard that s h i t company has done yet ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Dropping hardware? the only reason they want to do that is so they make more money on that joke of a program Reason.

FOOLS, First we have to move our stuff to OS X, now when they finally make a version of recycle to use, they tell use we have to go out and buy software if we want to use it. Like I am going to sell my EMU for a CPU hungry soft sampler. I use Pro Tools only to track, not to play something my Synth and Sampler hardware already does better.

Bad customer consideration. I am done with that company for good.

I am writting them right now, and its not going to be pretty

"Propellerhead is dropping support for the old rack units like E-MU and Yamaha in the next version of ReCycle"

If this is so, then it would just be dropping the SCSI transfer stuff. On one hand I do not blame them since questions relating to this eat up a LOT of their support and it is not even a problem with Recycle. Regardless, this feature is not used that entensively and is just about easier to save to your HD in WAV or AKP+WAV format and let some other software take it from there.

There is also the possibility that OSX has problems with SCSI transfers and may prevent them from supporting this feature. This sounds a little more plausible since a company usually does not REMOVE features from a peice of software without a very good reason. It is already there and it is already working.

Peak for OS X transfers fine to SCSI.

I think they are just being A s s h o l e money grubbers.

Thats too bad, cannot see why they would drop support for hardware if they allready have it implemented!!!

I still use recycle v1 works for me...

Same reason many big producers still prefer their S5000 samplers to the software counterparts!!!!

If it 'aint broke don't fix it...!!!

It isn't going to do any good crying over this change. There is no reason for Native Instruments to support hardware that has been officially discontinued by the manufacturer. The AKAI Z4/Z8 is the last great hardware sampler, and look how little interest there is in it. With products like Mach 5 and SampleTank selling for less than $500 no one is going to want rack samplers that cost $1,500 - $2,000 (or more!). A few years from now you'll have the same software functionality as M5 and ST for $200 or less. The day of the hardware sampler has ended. I don't care for the change either, but you have to move on.

Then sell of those MPC's, no need for them.

I will never sell off my hardware, unless its to buy better hardware.

I think SCSI is a dead communication, time to move on, it's always having mad trouble, but lots of folks still have it. USB/Firewire is the way to go. The new Soft samplers are amazing, but all of us use a hardware sampler. I'm curious if with the CF format of the MPC 1000 with it's drag/drop abilities, if with the new Recycle 2.1 we will be able export the .wav of the recycled loop and the midi file that goes with it? Does the anybody do it with the 4000 usb hook up?

Z4 is a piece of shit, thats why theres no interest. As fr as software samplers, I got a G4 and cant even run a soft synthesizer in ProTools (aint no way Im running sample tank), thats why hardware aint going no ware.

I just responded to a similar thread at OSX Audio the other day. It;s unfortunate that Propellerhead are going to drop support for hardware samplers. But, I think it just becomes an opportunity for someone who can write software to create useful little utilities for various hardware samplers to send and receive samples via SCSI on OSX or Windows XP. There is definitely some money to be made by the folks who come with the quickest and smartest product.

Peace.

Yeah, what about that Phatmatik Pro guy...he wrote some good stuff I heard, but once again strickly for Software not Hardware.

are you saying that you wont be able to chop samples up in recycle on osx, toss them to mpcprgrammaker and and onto a zip via scsi?

By MPC_Producer Sat Dec 06, 2003 9:17 pm
ReCycle communicates with rack samplers through MIDI and SCSI. Propellerhead announced it is no longer going to support these transfers on discontinued old rack samplers. You'll have to get the file into the old hardware some other way instead of directly from ReCycle.

There is no opportunity to earn money by supporting discontinued samplers with drivers for ReCycle. Can you imagine the work involved? The market would be extremely small and few people if any would be willing to pay for what they feel should be free.

As kevindetroit pointed, SCSI is an old standard that is dead. With the speed and longer cable lengths offered by USB and FireWire, manufacturers stopped deploying SCSI on many devices a few years ago. SCSI is much faster than MIDI but it is too slow.

The Z4 was not a good product. Its price made it an affordable sampler. There is practically no interest in the Z4 or the Z8 any more. Visit the AKAI-Z8 group over at Yahoo. During the two years that group has been in existence only 400 messages have been posted, compared to active groups that have thousands of posts. A recent post was titled, "The Z8's been a disaster hasn't it?" A very appropriate title. The Z4/Z8 probably has a year of life left. Then AKAI will have no choice except to stop making them.

ReCycle is somewhat expensive for the little that it does. It just goes to show you how high a utility has to be priced for a business to make a decent profit. You can use other editing applications to chop files if you don't care for it. I use a combination of editing tools, including ReCycle.
