I dont think that thats much to ask for.
Thats like buying a car and the air condition don't work.
I don't get it. You read the manual to the car before buying. It explains the car is equipped with air conditioning, however air conditioning is only available on the passenger side. You buy the car and then become extremely dissapointed the air conditioning doesn't work on the driver's side. Who's to blame?
a) Pete Rock
b) You
c) Akai
Did they advertise this sound processing as something that works on stereo samples, then print something different in the manual? Better yet: did you already drop 2G's for new Akai product or do you just act like you did? Do you consider this a flaw, a bug that needs to be worked out, or perhaps just something actually intended for reasons unknown to us at this time - perhaps to ease up on the processor or Akai's OS developpers?
If you're really careful of where you spend your money, how about reading the manual before buying? Just beacuse it's an MPC doesn't mean you should make an ill-informed decision as a consumer.
Man your tripppin. I have bought pleanty of Akai products, my 4k still isnt as advertised so I can say what I want. I also went through a 90 page manual that came with the my 4k and it was garbage!
However I use it every day, and was thinking about spending 2g on the 2500 but reading these forums to see problems people are having is also a good outlet to check out BEFORE buying.
I wont spend no money being a beta tester for Akai so I depend on the people who use the the gear to read review and see what problems people are having.
I did read the manual and I did read the specs but bottom line is you wont know whats up until you start hearing or reading reviews and fourms such as this one.
I jumped on the 4k when it first dropped, I dont regret it but I learned a good lesson from Akai, it dont matter what the specs say or even the manual. Bottom line is you wont know until people buy it, test it and rave or trash it.
Whos to blame?

As a consumer I will never trust a word out there mouth.
On the box, in the manual or a so called update.

I jumped on the Akai MPC 4000 the day that it hit Japan. I was not disappointed at all with it and never ran into many problems that people have reported. This was most likely due to me using it the way I have always used MPCs. I am fully aware of the problems that were reported. But I am curious to know what features that were advertised that is still doesn't have. Every time I ask this question..I get the run around. So please let a brother know. I haven't touched a 4000 since I got rid of mine years ago.
But if I bought something that wasn't as advertised, I would have returned it for a refund and go with something else. But that's just me though. If you are unsatisfied with your MPC 4000, I can take it off your hands and find it a good home
You won't know what the deal is until you actually touch an MPC 2500. These forums can be filled with non-sense. Even coming from me
Several of us have made mistakes by overlooking some info and posting it. If you read these threads and didn't read the later threads, you can easily be misinformed. So you can continue to base your decision to buy on these forums or you can test it out for yourself..or both. I prefer the latter.

Intellasample isnt avaliable yet, dont forget about the project files.
I can send you the first spec sheet on the 4k,
They came up with lame ass replacments for them but never finished what they were attened to do.
I wish Sean W was still around, he knew the deal with Akai.
I wont part with my 4k for nuthin so forget it. I love that machine but I accept its flaws.
As far as me buying the 2500, na not yet. I wanted to jump on that thing but I remembered a bumpy road with the 4k.
I rather wait until more people use it and test it out for a few months.
Akai releases beta units but you must know that Jahrome.
Remeber good old 1.50 update? Damn the 4k went bonkers.
I remeber the first day I brought my 4k home, It crashed while powering up, the guy at Sam Ash told me I had to update it to get it to BOOT!
But seriously I do love my 4k. The things it can do are amazing and at this point I love it and would never to sell it.
(I did once but bought it back)
By the way I'm still waiting for that review. How is the build of the machine, is it a tank or plastic?

Is that all. Yes, I remember reading that on Akai's USA site as well as streaming samples from hard disk and direct to disk recording. But I don't remember this on the Akai Japan site nor probably cared because I was just too happy to get this new MPC.
When I bought my MPC 4000, I received an updated OS in the mail within a week of buying it. I loaded the OS immediately. I didn't have any problems with the unit. When I got mine, i cracked it open, maxed out the memory, and installed both hard drives and CD Rom drives. I didn't have problems but I did get annoying emails from a customer a year down the line
Another MPC 4000 customer I had still emails me to this day and is still much in love with it. In fact, I gave him the info I read in this forum about the blue face plates for sale. He order one for his MPC 4000.
But...if you have an MPC 4000 and is happy with it..why on earth would you get at $2000 or even a $1500 MPC 2500??
As far as the build, it is as solid as an MPC 2000XL but the metal plate on the bottom of the unit should have been heavier/more solid. The data wheel is pretty much the same as the XL..they could have done better in that department as well.

Well I moved my studio from my home. But I spend time at my house So I wanted something to work with while chillin at home.
2500 fit the bill, so I was looking into it.
Who knows I may just get a 1000. Ill wait it out.
Thanks for the info on the build.

The MPC 4000 is big but not too big to use at home. If you want to continue working at home and the studio, it would be better to get just another MPC 4000 for compatibility. Especiallly since a used one can go for the same price or less than a new 2500. And a new MPC 4000 with a hard drive and CDRW drive is just a few hundred dollars more than a MPC 2500 with the same drives....
Just a thought though...
Not trying to talk you out of the MPC 2500..but honestly, I am trying to talk other potential buyers into getting another MPC (or alternative) besides the MPC 2500. Just so I don't have to see the forum flooded with 'I just bought my MPC 2500 and returning it. I can't use a 3rd party CDRW drive and it crashed when I installed a 250 gig hard drive'
But this is a public forum so I guess everyone is free to do their thang

it doesnt work with stereo samples because they will often have different peaks etc in the left and right channels. Its just too complicated to implement automatically. at least thats what akai thought

That's a pretty flimsy excuse on Akai's part...other chopping software has solved this long ago by letting you choose L, R, or Mix for the peak detection source...not an impossible problem by a long shot...
I dunno, it just seems like Akai is half-assing this one but charging a full-ass price.

I didn't even notice that it took the chopped only the left channel until it was pointed out that the manual states this. I don't see the big deal personallu.
