bass sounds

Ive heard of lots of things, key words heard of, and im trying to figure out how to do it. WIll someone give me some ways to make my own bass sounds, ive heard about turning something way up?, also i heard pete rock will take the same sample (say like a piano) he uses as a melody and somehow turn it into a bass line.

he would probably use filters for that, that's my guess cause I've done it before, strings also.

Take a single low piano hit. Now filter down the highs until you get the low bottom end your looking for then maximize that volume (I used sound forge and virtos toolbox for filtering.) Tune to desired taste and serve well done with a dinner roll.

Like the others said, it's all about filtering. In the parameters screen, turn the filter down to around 20. If you have the FX you can filter there too.

Search for the thread on Low End Theory, that will help too.

ok...I'm using sound forge but don't see a filter option

Try using one of the EQ's to bring up the lower frequencies (bands on far left) and drop all the high ones (far right). The mids can bring it out a little too. I then like to wet it up a bit so it doesn't sound too dry.

My virtos filters are plugins and not the standard sound forge effects. Use the eq like RONDU said.

I love soundforge, but the eq sounds like doodoo.

Still useful tho.

Use two or three outs, copy your sample/sound to three different pads.
Bank one left, one right, and one center. Drop the filter down to the 30-50 range on both left and right. Now, on the center channel, turn the volume down quite a bit, so that you do not over amp the sound. On the center channel, turn you RES. in the filter menu up to about 8.

Now, on all three samples turn the tunning to different numbers, but only off by one. Try left -1, right+1, and center0. This will give the overall sound a real good flange effect. This will boost the bass a little.

From this point, EQ the **** out of it till its just right.
