i wanna know what you guys use!

rookie questions...

i have a cd rom, if i have a cd with something i want to sample i cant just use my cdrom i need an actual cd player with rca outputs and then i would have to connect it directly to the mpc digitally right?

second,

i want to know what do you guys use to save your music?zip drives,floppys? how else is it that i could save a song or sequence?
there has to be something more hi tech and convieniant!

I'm no expert but to question 1. you will need a cd player, cant jus use the cd rom drive...aint that a b!tch
question 2.. I save with zip disks....but these lovely ppl will give you other opinions...

With the SCSI connection you could run several devices. for example, I have two SCSI cdrom drives and a 2Gb hard drive. With the SCSI you can connect just about any number of drives. You cannot exceed the number of SCSI id slots though.

I hook up my CD walkman to my MPC and sample off CD's or whatever with it. It beats hooking up an entire CD player to your MPC. For right now, I have all my ingredients saved on 3'5' floppy disks, Im saving to get a Zip Drive though ...peace

i hook up my sony 5cd changer (for a rack stereo) with my RCA outputs to either my mixer (which is my source for sampling from turntables too) or to the MPC digital input.....however neither way works....can anyone explain?
i figured hooking it up from the cd changer to the mixer would work (especially cuz a turntable hooked up this way works fine)but it didn't. I even hooked up the receiver (from the rack stereo) out to the mixer...still no luck.

I don't like sampling cd's but there are some samples i knwo i will never find in vinyl so....helpppp

You can:
*Connect CD player line out to MPC line in.
*Connect mixer out to MPC line in.
*For Audio CD's, I open the CD in a wave editor (I use sound forge)
and cut/chop/process in there and save all the WAV's to ZIP disk. I then take that ZIP disk to my 2KXL (w/internal ZIP) and load from there. More involved but more precise cuts/chops than using MPC alone to cut and chop.
*Load samples from SCSI CDROM.

These are the ways me and my friends get samples into our MPC's.

right now i save on zip, can you then hook up like a hardrive to the zip scsi to save more? like daisy chaining.

Yes, each device on the chain will have it's own SCSI ID. Up to seven including MPC.
