i don't find the asr x to be glitchy, it's just that ensoniq seems to have dedicated all of the x's resources to sampling & sample playback rather than sequencing .the sequencer hiccups if you fiddle with the knobs during playback, etc (who really uses it for the sequencer anyway?). the sampler, on the other hand, is amazing. it sounds great, is almost fully featured & is dead easy to use. if im gonna do a song with chops, i can sample the entire phrase, spread it across the pads/keys and adjust the start & end points in a matter of seconds (using only one sample in memory).
like vernon reid claims, this box is slept on...big time. i think what happens is, a lot of cats get one starting out because of the low used price. in the back of their head they're wishing it was a 2000xl so they dislike it & feel like it is inferior from jump. they never fully learn how to use it & tell others about how it's crap right after they sell for an mpc (then they come to the 2kxl and make posts like, how do i sample? what is swing? what is a vinyl drive & where can i get one?). the x prices are low right now, but i think that there is a pool of the same 10-20 asr x's getting passed around on eBay.
short story long, it's not glitchy at all for me.
el - guess i'm talking about any kind of mod. functional or cosmetic. i was thinking about replacing the input gain switch on the back with a knob and mounting it on the top of the unit. one small mechanical mod i made was to the power cable. i put in a socket on the back of the 60 so i can remove & replace the cable (like every other mpc). easy mod, but it obviously requires some simple soldering & cutting a hole in the back of the 60. i'm gonna put in an on off switch for the backlight as well.
the paint on my 60 is pretty beat, so it could use a paint job, i kind of like it that way. it's kind of like playing a beat up les paul.
pieuvre - post the wood sides if you can. i was gonna pick up some slabs of oak and make some up, but i'm too busy to do the work right now. i'd like to see how you did it.....
