Organising your MPC...

Im having trouble saving sequences in my mpc. At the moment, I create a track in a seperate folder, saving all programs, sequences, and effects in that folder. As you can guess, the memoery card gets filled up very quickly becuase the same samples are being saved over and over in different folders (as they are being used by more than one sequence). However, I think it its generally necessary to do this because the same programs in different folders are slightly different in terms of tunage and note off properties etc. Ya get me!? Advice appreciated - how do you save your sequences and programs!? Where am i going wrong?

I'd be interested in finding a better way too, but I think this is just the way it goes when you're saving the entire memory to folders, otherwise you've gotta load up your programs manually which is a waste of time, and worth the waste of memory i think.

best solution is prolly to just get a bigger card, or back up older stuff to computer. or even better would be the new HD option that'll be available soon.

first of all, what size CF card are you using?

next why don't you try this:

when you load up your pgms and make your seqs and you go to save "entire memory", before you save it, delete the sounds/samples from the pads you are not using on all of your tracks from all of your pgms, then purge all unused samples. you are now left with the samples/sounds that you are using. then save "entire memory"

when you go to load that project to continue working on it, and you find you need/want more sounds that were in the respective pgms just load the individual samples that you need into the pgm that it was originally in.


that way, it saves memory on your card when you save "entire memory"

sounds a good idea but also time consuming - how do you save your ish!?

I have been replacing the folder.. Any changes I make in my various projects are better than before anyway and it saves my the trouble.

i save the same way as you do, and i still have the 32...

i just do alot of transfers and usually only have 1 or 2 projects going at a time.

but regardless, i am aslo interested in better organized beats

Cos Transfers are annoying man. I'd be interested to hear how other people save their work.

I save everytrack as a Save entire memroy. I will purge the majory of the sounds I didn't use to keep the file under 5mb. I use to save just the sequnce and songs, but changing of drum kits and programs caused me to have to redo a lot of things. So I save everything and just archive it to my CPU, and once I get a bunch of song I back those up to CD. Take advantage of the larger CF cards and store entire memorys of songs. That the way I do it, I'm sure there are more effiecent ways, but this way I haven't had any problems.

i also use the save entire memory funcation religiously. I had a couple bad experiences with the other types of saves, based on not knowing what I was doing, and I like the peace of mind the Autoload brings.

My concern is for the Flash, maybe its bad to keep saving the whole thing over and over?

PS It took me awhile to learn how to navigate subdirectories etc. on the 1k...however its really a nice interface for doing this!!! Using Window over folders letse you see whats inside right?

With the new Hard Drive, this is going to be a bigger issue...
I find that Personally the organization of a beat can make or break the way it comes out, not just saving it, but also

Which samples are on which pads (are matching kicks/snares/hats in the same bank)

Naming tracks (I never used to bother, using default track names its really quick) and makes TRack mute 10000 times more useful

This thread has inspired me to experiment with beat-and-program specific saving instead of the autosave, I'll let you know how it go

delete all from mem card using pc

then save entire memory

it will save everything - all samples

this saves all your work

since I am using only 16mb of ram

i delete all the samples that I ended up not using so that they wont load up when loading PROJECT1 - this saves space for those still on 16mb of ram - for you to be able to load up other things like samples

then when Im done I record my music as a sample then transfer to the pc for editing
