Can't understand purging

I just got the mpc 4000 not too long ago and one of the things I can seem to understand is purging all the extra samples that are not being used for a sequence. We I save, it is saving everything which not only takes forever but is eating up a lot of space. I found out how to purge, but I am doing something wrong because it is still saving a bunch of samples that aren't being used. Can you help?!!

the "purge" function, is about samples wich are not affected to any program. If the samples are in a prog, you cannot delete them by using "purge".

Can one of you tell me were the purge function is? I cant find anything on the 4000. The 2000 was much simpler.

There are two pages in the MPC4000 where Purge can be used. You can delete samples that aren't being used by a program, and you can delete programs that aren't being used by a multi. After you press the Program or Sample keys then press Window and Delete. The Purge function key is in the Delete window. After you're done with all that you can defrag the MPC memory!
