reading all the stuff on the guys page made me decide to take one for the team and try it out.

it seems i can reload the original 1.07 back if i want to (but as of right now everything seems to be working normal).

i was more curious to see if this guy really pulled it off. and did anyone notice his download page looks exactly the samke as akai's japan download page? he probalbly copied it, but it almost makes me think this really was an akai developer making his own stuff.

if someone really did release a development kit, the 1000 could have new features coming to it for as long as people try and make unofficial os additions. that would be crazy...

oh, and if i had wrecked my 1000, i work at a used music store and i see 1000's all the time so i problalbly would have just sold mine and gotten another one....luckily nothing happened.

I noticed those files before. That's for the DPS recorders, check the Read Me file:

OSMaker2 for Macintosh Read Me file

Introduction

OSMaker2 for Macintosh is a utility that allows you to copy the downloaded operating system file for any DPS-Series recorder to a removable media drive (i.e. Jaz, Zip, MO) so the operating system can be upgraded. The OSMaker2 utility takes the downloaded operating system for the DPS-Series recorders and creates a disk image that the DPS recorder will recognize. Complete instructions for upgrading your DPS recorder, as well as the latest operating system updates can be found on the Akai web site at www.akaipro.com.

Release Notes:

1. The Crash Mac Disk selection under the Others menu is designed to force the writing of the DPS operating system to certain Mac formatted media that is not supported using the normal procedure. Using this function will destroy any data residing on the target disk, so please make sure to choose disks carefully.

i am really excited about the 3rd party thing....

i will try it sometime sounds like it has a 'pitch bending and scratching' type of thing.. even using the wheel, am i right?

i have always thought they should have more of those features

it would be sick for live performance

yeah this has mad potential. for the record, though, can't you basically load whatever into your mpc, os wise, and always be able to reboot the akai official os's?

at least in this case, yes. you can reload the os. i am assuming this though since i haven't seen a reason to actually reload the official 1.07 instead of the hacked version mpc1000ex.bin.

the way it is setup is that the os loads normal if no card is in the 1000 when you turn it on. it acts completely normal. but if you have a card with one of the .bos files on it, it loads that up instead of the regular os (notice i said instead of, and not along with....you gotta turn it off and back on without a card in it if you want to use it normally again).

this stuff might be really useful for people who use their 1000 for live stuff. and i think the same page mentioned later this week he is gonna drop another program. a real time voice pitchshifter i think.

and again, remember, all this stuff is unofficial so loading it is at your own risk, which really isn't worth it unless you're gonna use the 1000 live.

The MPC1000 is not exactly a completely proprietary design. All the hardware is off-the-shelf and the design tools for the OS is available. I have the stuff here but I've not had the interest or time to tinker with the MPC1000.
