Sh!t... I never seen so many heads up in this forum all at once since Sparq dropped all this info yesterday.

I don't see why it shouldn't be a free download. Every other OS is free. If Akai were to charge people for it, their phones would be ringing off the hook with alot of angry people.

idoubt it. its unreasonable for people to be mad at akai if they charged a fee. its not like akai is taking anything away.

think of it this way, the mpc2000 and xl will be second choice to the mpc1000 v.2.

so if the 2000 got knocked off the line, and the 1000 aquires its better known features, then why shouldn' tthey charge a bit for it?

i wont be surprised if it requires a fee. mind you, even if they encode it so only you can acess the version you purchased, people will find ways around it, and we'll cop a version for the price of a small hack.

we'll juts have to see. i cant imagine them giving it aaway, not from a business point, but it might just happen.

what mpc1k owner do you know that wouldn't pay 29.99 or as much as 49.99 for a new os that comes with a manual? its a good way to make some money, and make both sides happy.

we'll see

Considering that Sparq's manual pic is in a pdf format, I would assume the download is free. Also if the download isn't free, it may end up hurting future 1K sales. Keep in mind, this is just speculation, but if Akai were to pull a jack move like that, I'm sure it could bite 'em in the ass when all is said and done. You don't see Roland charging anything for the MV8000 version 3 OS, do you?

Of course the OS is gonna be free
If not this would be Akai's first software update EVER that would cost money.
No way they could prevent it from being used for free by everyone

damn, im excited about this and ive never even touched a 1k, never mind own one. im on the classic 2k, but this is exciting stuff right here. All i heard was how the 1k is limited, and full of glitches, and everyone was selling them, the BAM outta the blue, sparq drops the news. absolutely crazy! i was considering buying an mpc 60 for my second mpc, but damn this is crazy! i might reconsider.

so sparq, whats up with a new OS for the classic 2k? haha j/k!
