what do the pads feel like?

are they the same pads from the XL, or the little less respected pads from the 1000?

The pads don't feel like the 2000XL. At least not the beige model. They're probably somewhere in between the feel of the 1000 and the 2000XL. Not bad, in other words. As a matter of personal preference I have always thought the 2000XL has the best feeling pads of any MPC ever made.

My 2kxl se2 red/white pads are a little softer than grey/white 2kxl pads.
Also softer than standard 4k pads. I played with a 1k a LONG time ago so I can't remember how the pads felt.

The pads of the 2500 are different that the XL for sure. But they are the same size of the XL. You can swap out the pads if you like as others in the forum have done already.
