My mpc 60 is going crazy

If anyone can help it would be appreciated. I just got my 60 yesterday and it was working fine. I loaded sounds and played withsome sequences. Today I hadn't used it for 20 minutes and the screen went bananas. There were horizontal lines and nothing else. I turned it off and rebooted and this time it wouldn't even load the os. Ithe 2.02 version. I ordered 3.10. If anyone has any idea what's causingthis please hit me up.

Try reloading the OS for now. Sounds serious though. It might be corrupt.

I'll try some of those links and see what I can come up with. I should have have the new os in a few days and hopefully that will solve the issue.

Wow, sounds like the previous owner/s gave that mutha a beatin'. Or maybe it needs an OS upgrade. If worse comes to worse, Contact the person you bought it from and asked him "whats the deal?". Otherwise, I would advise you to consult with a technician, preferably an akai authorized one. Get yourself a free estimate, and see what the problem really is.

was the screen still messed up on reboot? If so, it might just be the LCD.

I hope it is the OS though, for your sake.

The screen is on, but the disk doesn't boot up. The disk, record and play buttons are on automaticly when i turn the unit on. I should have the upgrade in a few days. I hope that's all it is. Keepin my fingers crossed!

That is a little hard to do when the OS is burned on ROM chips.

I really doubt it is the OS. Contrary to popular belief, OS's just do not go `bad` and need reloading. There is something more seriously wrong with that MPC.

You could try to look in there now, but I am not sure if you are familiar with electronic workings so I will hold off on suggesting what to look for.

Yes, I worked as an authorized Akai repair tech and yes, I have seen this problem before.

thanks for clearing that up. I talked to the guy I bought it from and if I can't get it going in a few days, I'm sending it back to him and look elsewhere. I don't know anything about electronics, so I'm not inclined to just open it up because I wouldn't know what to look for. So do you think I should try and intall the upgrade or or hold off until I get another mpc?
I guess this the chance you take buying gear this old off ebay! I couldn't pass this up for just under $600.

I sent my mpc60 to VST in Pasadena. Cost me $10 to ship it. Turns out it was the power supply. They repaired it and tested everything else and also installed the 3.10 software. It only cost me $85 and $20 to ship back to me. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.

That was probably a mix up that they installed the 3.10 OS for him. I would'nt go blowing their hotline up because the result would be just like last time when they had a rep post his apologies for misleading all of the MPC60 users. Sure wish that had been my MPC 60 though

No they definitely didn't give me the upgrade. I purchased it from Roger Linn and sent it along with the intention for them to install it after they repaired the power supply. That would've been a very nice mix up though!
