PCM system requires steep filters at the input
to absolutely block any signal at or above half the sampling
frequency. (In conventional 44.1 kHz sampling, “brick wall”
filters must pass 20 kHz audio, yet reject 22.05 kHz — a
difficult task.) In addition, re-quantization noise is added by
the multi-stage or “cascaded” decimation (downsampling)
digital filters used in recording and the multi-stage
interpolation (oversampling) digital filters used in playback.

The best 30ips half inch tape recording system can capture frequecies past 50hz
DSD can represent that up to 100hz


So A test usuayll dones is the 10khz sqaure wave...
U record it into your system...at 16 bit..
Bounce it to cd then bring it back in..
The square wave is now a sine wave..

At 24 bit no change..

Or recording at dsd
Recording in DSD may seem a daunting task. However simple
calculation show differently. DSD samples music at 64 times the
sample rate of Compact Disc (64 x 44,100 Hz = 2,822,400 Hz) and
uses just one bit per sample. Comparing this with regular PCM
recording (16 bits/sample at 44,100 Hz), the resulting DSD sample bit
rate is only 4x higher, which is well within current available recording
system capabilities both tape as well as hard disk

U will half to rip your whole studio apart to start recrding in dsd....

Amount of Bits: Adding more bits certainly gives more dynamic range and less distortion, but the best D/A converters can realistically only reproduce about 18 - 19 bits of resolution.

This is not about to change unless there is a major paradigm shift in the laws of physics.
Is 24 bits better than 20 bits? Not if all those other bits are lost in noise. SACD uses 1 bit at a very high sampling rate giving it an effective 120 db SNR in the audio band.


This will clear up the 24-bit rule of thumb quickly

Tascam is releasing a new dvd-24bit-198 DSD recorder....But expensive I bet..

Instead of getting into this because people just seem confused as h*ll about digital I will suggest buying this book and visiting this site.
May help you and put you on the path for better understanding (If you love math or are strong in math persue better understanding on digital it will help you make better use of the tools you have) insteading of just repeating myths and unrelated aspects.

There are real reasons why some people can't perceive various differences and there are reasons why others can.

I have always used 32bit / 44.1kHz there is a difference. Just experiment so you can hear the difference. Next remeber this "quality of sound is important, but if your system can only handle 16/44.1 that is alright". The song can still suck at higher recording rate. It just sucks clearer. :lol:
