internal zip vs the floppy drive

This kind of ties into my other post but I thought that not everyone would look at the other since its more on the "please help me, I'm a moron" side.

Anyway, convince me to get rid of my floppy & put a zip drive in there. I didn't buy it with a zip inside in case I met somebody who didnt have an internal zip. I learned pretty quickly that very few of my beats will fit on one floppy but I'm still reluctant to get rid of it. What are the pro's & cons?

I can load three programs from a CDROM and save a song to my Zip by the time you load one LARGE program from a floppy.

Werd, for realz.

Spacewise, floppy is like an apartment with only 1.44 bedroom space.
ZIP is like having a whole estate with 100-250 rooms.

Speedwise, the zip dumps on a floppy.

I agree with the other guys however, like you pointed out not everyone has zip drives. Also If your going to be editing samples in your computer you will need some means of getting them into or out of the computer. I refuse to get rid of my floppy drive. I use an external zip drive, hard drive and cdrom drive. No matter where I go or who I hook up with swapping out is no problem. Not to say that 1.44mb is not a joke compared to zips and etc; but versatile. Remember if you install a zip in your MPC how will you get it into your computer?

I got internal 250mb zip in my PC and MPC. Floppy drive on PC also for friends who wanna bring their stuff.

Umm, take out the disk and put it in the drive that is attached to the computer???

if you lose the floppy, you may have difficulty getting new OS updates from the akai website. Unless you have a ZIP plugged into your PC

My last name is Sanders so I got both (if anybody remembers the old Deion Sanders' commercials). My piano has a floppy drive and sometimes I'll sequence a song on my piano save it on floppy and then drop the floppy into my MPC. That maybe a long walk around the park for some, but I like to have both floppy and zip.

yeah, some folks act like thats the hardest workaround on the planet......no doubt about it get the zip, takes the strain off of having to keep up with like 9+ discs for one beat and then having to go back and over your discs tofind some drum samples you need.....its such a waste of time.....then again some people like it the "old school way" :roll:

And trust me, zip 100's are on ebay like candy. You can find a good deal on a extenal scsi and keep the floppy intact. I got a box of three drives (2 scsi and 1 printer port) for twenty dollars so now every computer in my house has zip now. Also don't go looking in the mpc listing for a drive because you will get gouged!

Yeah, not all but some sales reps are quick to tell peeps that "ONLY the Akai Zip kit will work and no others". Customer support at your local McDonalds sometimes seems to be more informed and knowledgable about their own products. I have ran into a few that actually use the gear and know what they are talking about and make the thought process much easier with well detailed info and advice, I like them.

Paid under 20$ for new one on ebay, installed myself "no sweat" works fine. F that kit, it's just pure propaganda laden drama! Along with the "official" sellers on Ebay.

keep the floppy and use the external zip!!!

REASONS

1. i do a lot of songs for people and i dont like wasting zip space to put a bunch of songs on when i can trow it on a cheap floppy

2. lets say you use another keyboard with your mpc i use my mpc with a triton studio and if i dont format the floppy i can save seq data from my mpc and my triton on the same disk from one song so when i need to pull that song up for that artist i dont have to look for mpc zip triton cd or zip the song is all togher on one format

3. for speed sake you can put all your sounds and kits on zip and you can just save the program info on floppy without saving the sounds that keeps from cluttering up your zip

4. also lets say you are working on a track and there is one sound that is too low or you want to edit on your cpu saving the one sound to floppy and moving it to cpu then back to mpc is a lot easier this way than using a zip

I disagree. The saving of ZIP/floppy is exactly space 'cept you'll run outta floppy space faster than ZIP.

Why do you make it sound like the concept is different?

i hope these ideas help you Once more, IF "LOWBUDGET" had a USB/Internal ZIP on his PC AND a SCSI/Internal ZIP on his MPC, which transfer do you think would be easier AND faster. For both it would both be just a matter of walking the ZIP/Floppy over to the PC. Speedwise, the ZIP is faster than floppy. So in essence the transfer would be less painful going the route of the ZIP don't you think? How many people have said "I hate this dammm floppy cause it's too slow loading/saving? Then again, you can say that the floppy is more reliable and universal than ZIP also.
