right had a few probs. the mpc seems to crash loads, added ram, found it work, worked fine, then crashed, and wouldnt switch back on. so i took the ram out, and it works, but still crashes. also the usb doesnt seem to work, i hav it connected to my pc, and there's no 'found new hardware' popping up, the same usb cable recognises my printer and midi keyboard....am i doing something wrong? just wanna update the OS to see if that stops the crashes.

i'm not too clear on what the problem is. you mean when you try and tranfer samples across the usb the mpc crashes?

^^if thats what you mean, then how are you tranfering the samples across when your pc doesnt recognise the mpc is there?

OR

are you saying that that it crashed when you load samples into its RAM?

which ever it is, your probably right to try reinstalling the OS before anything else.

in order for your computer to recognize your mpc's usb, you have to plug both ends in their respective ports, then on the mpc, press mode and load or save (either one). you will notice a usb tab. press it. that's when your computer recognizes the usb. there are no drivers to install.

now, about the crashes. are you saying when you installed the memory, the mpc saw the 128mb then it crashed. and you took the memory out and the mpc worked with no problem? you have to be more clear with the crash thing.

ok, may hav fixed it. basically it was crashing oddly even when no cf cd or xtra ram was installed, or any usb cable attached. so i thought best thing update the os. when i did update the ram it recognised it no probs, worked for 5 mins then seemed to crash. so i thought take it out, and then it worked...for a bit....after crashing and then refusing to load. anyhow, to cut a long story short, i figured out the usb...being a bit of a spaz it took me a while, but updated the os....no crashes so far. hav just added the 128 kingston ram, so crashes so far. dunno wat was going wrong, hopefully it'll be friendly from now on. it all seems nice and dandy and im just figuring the mpc out. get the basics, and liking the shoddy samples onboard to play with, now need to get to the real sampling, think ill start adding 808 kits and some nice bobby womack sample for starters, cant wait for timestretching and zoning to work with the new os....anyway will report back if the bastard crashes for no reason at all again. cheers for help

not for shit im afraid. installed the ram, it crashes randomally. could 20 mins, could be 2 mins, could be 10 mins of playing about. its official Kingston ram 144-pin, cl3, 256mb, 133...bought brand new. using a viking 512 cf card. when it crashes, screen images disappear, and just led light stays on. any ideas

Try it without the CF card and see if it still crashes. If it still does, then pull out the memory as well and see what happens. Once the process of elimination is through, then you can determine if any of those two are the cause. If they arent, try doing a factory reset and see if that helps. If not, you need it serviced.

Sounded like a bad OS load or your OS got corrupted somehow.

Re-installing the OS might help.

Even on my triton extreme I have to ENABLE usb mode.. USB mode on the triton read/writes DIRECTLY to CF card, the 1k does this also. So you should have a CF card in there BEFORE you do the USB thing.

right. os 1.07 (was happening on 0s 1.0 which was installed as well)...it happened just now and comes up wiv the error msg "illegal general instruction exeption" and lots of codes after tha. will take out ram and see wat happens. otherwise anyone got any ideas (appreciate help so far)....any easy way to remove ram, is there a lever that makes it pop out or sumthing, or do u just hav to pull it out?

maybe ram is going bad?

change slots between sticks.
clean contacts on ram with a
contact cleaner or dry pencil eraser.

think it was a bad ram install, seems okay at the moment. cheers for help. really enjoying my new toy.

might be worth taking that ram back to wherever you brought it and asking for a new one. dont tell them you've been trying to use it in an mpc tho.
