Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Ok then considering his PM box would get full of BS then probably it's better to not have Akai representatives engage in meaningful contact with their customer base. Good point! :o

I would just post the question you have. You never know who might answer it...An Akai rep or a forum member. Do you really need to know who the Akai rep is? Or are you satisfied knowing that Akai employees do visit these forums?

Sor for the few catz here that own the MPC 2500, have you found any bugs in the current OS?

I do have the full contact information to technical support in Japan. My wife has been talking to him recently and informed her to call or email him anything I find.

So with all these contacts floating around (and the Akai personnel that frequents these threads) information will get to the individuals that are responsible programming the OS.

BUG:

Setting user defaults doesn't work. This feature appears to be in the OS but does not appear to be documented in the manual. It is however identical to the same feature in the MPC1000 which is documented and which also does not work. Perhaps it's a feature that they meant to cut completely? Probably a bug in the MPC1000 that just crept over to the 2500.

Repro:

1. Turn on the MPC
2. On the Main screen change the Tempo from 120 to anything else, change the number of bars in the loop to anything other than 2.
3. Hightlight the Sequence name and press WINDOW
4. Press F3 "USER"
5. Press F5 "DO IT"
6. Restart the MPC
7. You will notice that the sequence has the original defaults and not the values you just set.

Yeah, I noticed that one the first day. I was hoping someone would start a sticky for bug reports only--no commentary--so we could list all these problems in one place. They're going to be lost in threads like this one with a few pages of posts.

there are some people on this forum who may be upset if bugs are posted which they don't deem valid or correct so it may be best to have a forum to discuss and debate potential bugs before posting them as such. it's also quite possible that somebody will misunderstand a feature and post a bug when really they're doing something wrong.

perhaps we could post a bug here with steps to reproduce similar to what i did above. next, if there needs to be debate about the validty of the bug that can happen and if another use verified the bug following the steps they can just move that bug to a sticky item used for actual bugs?

Let the discussions begin. No use holding onto valuable information. There are some bugs..and a forth coming OS update (don't know when...maybe will get it when the MPC 1000 receives its OS update????).

Count me in for 3...the USER default setting function doesn't work.

Any of the filter Parameters in Q-Link don't work. All the others I have tried work. The only one I haven't tried is LAYER. Filter, CUTOFF1, CUTOFF2, RESO1, RESO2, appear to be placeholders for more unimplemented features.

Welcome to the world of MPC beta testing.

I was able to get some of them to work but not reliably. There is definitly something not right there.

And just to be clear, what you're talking about is modifying for example the values for "High Range" and "Low Range" when you have CUTOFF1-2 selected. You're not talking about simply setting the "Parameter" filed to "CUTTOFF1-2" and using the default values. (You used the word "parameter" so i'm just double checking)

I was able to get things to work more often if I pushed the RESET key.

please post the details on how to reproduce the bug.

from what you posted, it could be that the pad you are dealing with has the filter on "off". or the filter on low-pass set to 100 and the qlink set to 0 to +100 or other things...

i don't mean that you did not use the mpc correctly. but from your post it is hard to tell if it is a bug or not.

It might as well be...because although the 2500 is fairly stable from my 5 weeks of experience, there are a few issues that I have found. It I was a beta tester, the first OS 1.00 would have been solid. I have beta tested software before and know that you can't catch everything...but we are talking about some very basic functions.

So this site is as good/better than any Beta testing forum :D
