Zip disk question

does my external zip have to be SCSI?? cuz zip drive have other connection types too. can i got straight to the MPC from the zip or do i have to route it through my CD drive... like it is now? cuz my zip disk isn't reading the 2nd half of any of my disks, anyone ever heard of that? i have an older version of the 2000xl thanks to anyone that can help!!!

this is the way i do it now:

PC wav ----->MPCeditor----->USB zip drive ------> eject and into ----->SCSI Zip drive----> load samples and programs to MPC
