Mpc2500 Vs S6000 with Mpc2000XL

i got a Z4 rescently and love that USB method ... hmmm has the new 2500 got the USB utility too? and can that appear in ak.sys like the Z4 / s6000 does?

i just need some general advise as i love the MPC2000XL and cant stand to part with it, the Z4/mpc4000 is too clean and diluted ...its just too gay so something has got to change.... So i guess my main question is this .:

..am i better off selling the Z4 & mpc2000Xl then buying an MPC2500.......
...... or buying either a S6000/5000 to go with my mpc2000xl and just selling the Z4?

Any advise as i never used either a S6000/5000 or a MPC2500

The S6000/MPC2000XL is a very nice combo. I can only imagine that having the Z4 would be even more lethal.

Elmaco had a S6000 which he used with his MPC, so he might be able to shed some light on this if he sees it.

if you love the combo you are using right now, dont switch. it makes no sense to get caught up in shopping when what you have can get you the results you want.

There is no reason to sell the XL if you can;t stand to part with it.

I'm not a fan of the S6000 anymore, and if all you like is the USB method but don;t like the z4 sound and such I don;t think you'll like the 6000 much better. You said you got the Z4 recently, give it a shot for a while and see what you can do with it, otherwise try to find a sampler that you'll like for more than just usb transfer methods.

To be honest, any sampler with the 2000(xl) is a hellava combo.. Re-sampling is one of the biggest things missing from the mpc-60/3000/2000.

OR YOU CAN SAVE ALOT BY GETTING THE MPC 1000

The 1k will only get you USB and resampling. It is a different method than akai.sys. Its pretty much the same as using a memory card.

If you want a REAL sampler, stick with the z (or the s6000 is an option if you are trying to save money). I wouldn't keep either of them if all you are getting out of it is USB connectivity.

I've always wanted to upgrade to one of these samplers, but at that point it seems to make more sense to move up to the mpc4000 which has the Z plus advanced sequencing and the big screen. They just need to finish the damn OS.

about time i replied and cleared up a few things !


i used to own an emu-E64 and loved it but it broke on me or i broke it...

i thought that replacing it with the Z4 would allow me the same features (like long sample start adjustment) as my E-64 but with loads more memory and even more realtime control....but this wasn't the case the only thing i gained was the memory (oh and the 24/96 which i dont want)

but compared to the E-64 i lost quite a lot of dynamic features

and as for the SOUND it s all seeming a bit dithered and diliuted if you know what i mean???

i suppose my problem is that i want to use it differently to the way these new samplers are designed......whereas the older samplers had more open ended agendas that still allow for innovative sampling ?!? maybe the same "Creative" people who bought out EMU and ENSONIQ have links with the new AKAI and maybe (after inhaling green fog...he mutters) they have the same agenda....to make processed cheese ?!? to fill our ears with more shi@

so if anyone owning a MPC2000XL has experince with many other samplers can advise me on the best samplers for features and with crunchy f/x options maybe like the S5000/ S6000 or Emu or any other sampler wants to try advising me on either that would help most ...

im not RiCH just got what i thought was a bargain on the Z4 ....300 Pounds..hence Impulse Purchase......but looking on ebay i could have 3 x Emu e-64's for the same money i see Z4's going for hmmm but i do like the Sample engine of the MPC (that Amp !!) if only it was more powerfull Hence my thoughts on the MPC2500?? or MPC3000??

Chances are your not going to find one sampler that will do everything that you need. Even the latest and greatest sampler can't sound dirty like the sp-1200. If your only gripe with the Z4 is that it's too clean, then buy an old sampler to re-sample the sounds with.
In all honestly tho, if your creatively limited with a 2000XL and a Z4, then your doing something wrong. There's very little that the Z4 can't do, and I'm sure it can sound dirty too. The Z4 was my first choice, but I didn't want to spend the extra bux on it, so I got the Yammy A4000. I love it!

i am currently use ing the s 6000 2kxl combo aand i love it i chop all my sounds on my MPC and put them in programs on the 6000. its nice cuz i can filter whole programs at once wicth was totaly time consuming on the 2k. as for the effects i don't have the card in mine but the filters were def an upgrade. Plus the prosessing speed when doing things like timestrech or reverse was much faster. but i have no other sampler experience then with the two i own so i might not be much of a help sorry

i thought the EB20 effects board was built in on the 6000, and doesn't it have 26 types of resonant filter as standard?

The filters are not on the effects board. They come standard on both the S5000 and S6000, even without the FX board.

yeah i knew that

"it" meaning the s6000, i get where he's coming from with the filters now but the EB20 should be standard on that right?

Thanks all for the words....im getting on a lot better with the Z4 now....i really got to grips with it...it has got some awsome features and the menu system is exactly the same as the mpc2000xl and ive mastered the resampling so im back to the grainy crunchy midrange that ive missed.....and ive managed to sum up my initial problem:....when ever i brought the Z4 into the mix u could always tell it was the Z4 playing a particular sample....now i got em matched up nice
