Artist's you've come to appreciate.

In your times of digging, who are some artist's that you've come to really enjoy? I know for myself, sometimes I get so caught up in finding samples, I wont slow down and take time to really listen to the artists/records I'm listening to. Sometimes it's like I'm simply "skimming", or "browsing" through records. I would have to say some artists that I have developed a real love for would have to be:

Electric Light Orchestra(E.L.O.) - Great stuff. "Telephone Line" is Pop perfection.

Sade & Billy Holliday - Those voices. Relaxing regardless of the day you've had.

These are only a few of the more obvious ones, (I'm not going to give any great finds away here), but there is so much good music out there. Sometimes I think we are the people keeping forgotten music alive.

bob james and i don't know if he was the one to bust ever one else that played in his band but there was a lot of talented artist the colab'd with bob he was amazing for being a white guy he was deffinetlly soulful/funky

Nice. The ELO track I dig is "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" on the Eldorado LP. Sounds so much like a John Lennon written song.



Anyway.....digging turned me on to listening to soundtracks.

Made alot of disco classics that were well orchestrated and who was sick on the xylophone.
IMO... the best xylophonist next to Roy Ayers. Heavy Vibes...

hard to say, cos most of the music i now dig for i listened to before i started making beats and sampling. but i've definately discovered new stuff from it, always finding new artists (past & present) that i'll get more into.

i def got into Quicy Jones more... and always look out for Billy Coburn.

that classic album from Mose Ellison is something i came to like a lot. from listening to it the first time it was just a load of very useable samples, now its a fav album.

yeah man, thats the chappy - the drumer dude.

before i started digging i had a bunch of stuff with him on, but i didnt know who the fuk he was (my dad's a big jazz head and i inherited all his jazz vinyl when he switched to cds). but it wasnt untill i started digging for samples untill i'd check to see who was playing drum on any of these records. turns out i was a fan before i bothered to find out who he was (or how to spell his name! ).

it that signature song sound you were hearing ,in the 80's i was the same way with hi-nrg freestyle and breakbeats allways lookin for that 808 kit on certain records then in the 90's lookin for the 909 and that TB sound
find out there was certain producers use certain machines, but yeah drummers have a sound aswell.
