what are most rookie producers lacking in their beats?????

sure, but what i meant was that they could be just as professional (in their working practices) as the next guy but not pulling ca$h from it. would you still consider them as rookie?

Seems to be a lot of guys in here that are wrapped up in the money side of things. Makes me wonder what people would chose:

a) release a track that charts all over the world and not get paid a penny (dime, cent)
b) not release the track (what's the point, only going to make someone else rich..)

no but they make there riches from sponsor's look at qbetr and them cats they dont make money off what they do they get sponsor'd for the equipment and what not, sure they make money off tours and sh!t like that but there hole thing is to make people happy with there music.

i'm not the type thats after the money i just want my name out there and have people know who i 'am or who i was. sure it would be nice to make money
but i would choose A cause thats me just to build a name my name is more important then making money
my wife tells me all the time if i'm gettin paid to do a gig, some i do some i dont, like i tell her you need to build a name to get money,
i concider myself a professinal rookie at what i do, and i've been a rookie at djing for 26+ yrs

I hear what you're saying, but be careful with that. You might get the wrong name!! You can easily become the guy who'll play for free and then people will take advantage of you.

You have to put a worth on what you do. 26 years is quite a while so i'm sure you know what you're doing and you got skills behind the turntables so I think it's important for you to get paid for what you do. Not for the money though, you don't have to care about the money. Its the fact that people put you in a certain catagory and judge you before they even hear you.
If you were getting 10,000 for 4 hours work then pepole are going to assume you are the sht, before they even hear you.
But if you didn't get paid for your last ten gigs, they're going to put you in a lower category then some kid who started DJing last week and had the balls to demand $500.

This is just BEFORE they hear you spin.

I'm all for giging to get your name out tho, don't get me wrong if you think there's a real opportunity, grab it, paid or not.
But a lot of the time, you know deep down that you should be getting paid.
Put a worth on what you do and your skillz, compare it to other DJs in the area and how good you believe you are compared to them and when you find your price don't play for less.

Dos, yeah i feel you , i get paid , but in the last few years i had to slow down on my performing.

so i have to start getin in to it more.
but my names out there still

ive found using no quant but doubling the res gets you the best natural beats (you still need to get good at hitting them in)

and that quant with double res is better for those stricter electronic sounding beats

by no means am i a producer.

altho anything i spit on, is made by me.

for me, i love hard hittin drums and bass. if a track doesnt have one or the other i cant fkk with it.

what i lack is the technical know how. the ins and outs of music production. things from proper compression to a seamless mix. i can work my way around certain things to get the sound that i like, but I need full understanding of how everything works.

I'm with SLT on this, for me its about patience. i'll get there.

Alot of the newer producers lack ONE thing.... some lack more than one but most of them lack ONE thing... ORIGINALITY. They all try to duplicate the hot chart-topping money making sound that is NOW, rather than making good music that might be considered a classic whether or not it profits.

I think people are to mechanical in there approach to beatmaking! Everyone seems to have presets to what a beat should sound like. What most are lacking are just a few techniques to fill the beat out more and a proper melody,i.e one that ends on the first note or ends on the key of the melody. Also in the creative process its all about getting into the creative zone. There is a zone that you can tap into that will provide you with the ideas! Because all in all every major producer uses the same basic techniques just in a different way. In all actuality beatmaking is easy.We just get in the way of our own creative selves. Everyone has music in them it is natural! Its just a matter of tapping into that creative storehouse.

Drums are lacking.

If you begin with beatmaking you better focus on the drum sounds. Don't use only kick-snare-hat, make it more dynamic.

hip hop drums have stagnated for the last 10 years, and actually deevolved in certain genres of hip hop.

use the sequencer capabilities to their full extent!!!

Most new prodcution enthusist------hehehe not producer but enthusist...

lack expeirence in production, sound, acoustics....you know blah blah that people dont know about but need to know..

man you could be dedicated as funk but wihtout learning about how to organize your sounds or without reading a book about acoustics your stuck in a ditch....

when people hit me up to produce some stuff i take a look at how they do their thang and im really surprised they do somethings...
