Some help please on mpc2500!

chek this. i saved a guitar sample from my vinyl into the memory card
yesterday, then i went back on it today, made some beats to go with it.
then i thought i would load the sample, then chop it up in chop shop, then
convert it into a patched pharsed sample - so it automatically comes into
tempo with the beats i just made. when it is converted into patched phrase it comes on the the trim mode with the 'pp' in front of it BUT when i want to record this patch phrased sample (with my beats in the sequence window) it doesnt appear in the program and so records without altering the tempo of my beats. it only records the original sample before i patch phrased it (and only the original name without the 'pp' appears in the program).

im sure i messed it around yesterday and it worked - is there something i forgot doing?

WHY IS THE PATCH PHRASE NOT COMING UP IN THE PROGRAMS AND WHY CAN I NOT PLAY/RECORD IT?

please help

pg 73. para 07.

I take it u can make a patched phrase and it creates a separate copy of the sample that is patched right? Don't u have to assign that patched sample to a program? It is not automatically show up in a program I'm thinking.

This un-automatic assignment seems just like the 2kxl making a copy of a sample in a pad but when you go to seq again the original is still there and the copy is in memory cause it's not automatically assigned. YOU'll have to go into memory and assign it to a pad. It could be something like that.

Just assign the pp to a pad.

Thats exactly right but it doesnt say how to get into the memory and assign the new pp sound to the pad?

on the manual it just says you can 'assign the patched phrase to a pad in a program as well as an ordinary sample' BUT it doesnt say how - weird!

well frustarting, i wasted hours on this.

how do u assign pp to a pad?

yo! ive done it! bascially i saved the new pp to memory card, turned mpc on and off, loaded the sequence and loaded the pp sample(not the original) and then it tell u to assign it to a pad. so it appears on the program.

oh my gosh - there still must be an easier way.

The section on patched phrase is poorly written. It should be completed scrapped and redone. I must have read it at least a half dozen times already. It's nothing short of Japanese voodoo logic the way it's presented. I am certain this confusing topic is going to one of the more frequently discussed features of the 2500.

I noticed a couple other sections in the operator manual that have the same type problem where it's mentioned that something can be done but it doesn't explain how to do it. Let's hope these things get cleared up though I doubt it's going to happen.

I just re-read the English manual and don't find it confusing at all. It clearly state assign a patched phrase to a pad in a program. This is no different than assigning any sample to a program.

Your problem was not with that patched phrase..it was with knowing how to assign samples to a program...and knowing how to save/load samples to include patched phrases.

how do you it then?

how do u assign patched phrase sample to a program, coz when i try to do it it doesnt allow me to save the pp sample, it only allows the original sample?

if u know please let me know.

In the Program menu is where you assign samples (including patched phrases) to pads. When you save this program, make sure that you save it with samples (pp sample). To load this program, make sure that you load it with sounds. Nothing more to it than that.

lemme recap what i think you're saying here.

you get a sample somehow called "SomeSample" (for example). in trim mode you chop up "SomeSample" and convert it to a patched phrase. in the trim screen you should now see a sample called "SomeSamplePP". if you now go into the program mode, press the pad you want to assign the PP to, you should be able to scroll through a list of samples using the jog-dial until you come to "SomeSamplePP" just like you would any other sample.

i think you've already figured this out but "SomeSample" and "SomeSamplePP" are different files. when you make a patched phraise the mpc creates a new version of the original sample that can be tempo-changed real-time.

if after you chop "SomeSample" and convert to a patched phraise and don't see "SomeSamplePP" in the trim list or the program list then you *may* have a bug and it would be cool if you would post a step-by-step on what you did so that some of us can try it.

i've had no problems with PP and assigning to pads.

I have no problems with patch phrases...no problem with adding them to programs..no problems saving or loading them (with programs or individually).
