Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By djskechy Sun Oct 30, 2005 3:49 am
Hi Ive been looking throught the manuel but I cant find the answer I want. Can I use more than one program on one sequence on the 2000xl? Like trake one has a drum prog. and track two has a conga prog. when I had my MPC 1000 I could do it on there.

of course u can use more than one drum program. you have 24 programs which you can store in the machine but you can only use 4 programs at a time during a beat. Spend some time reading, this is realy simple. Read up on PROGRAM CHANGES

u can actually use more than 4 at a time, its in the manual somewhere and i only used it once u gotta use that pgm: thing on the main screen and number all your programs different numbers but it gets kind of confusing

cmon...someone back me up on this...it is definately possibly, i had to use 5 programs one time on a beat....i either read it in the manual or somewhere on this site, but basically in the program screen with the program name highlighted (pgm:), hit open window and under midi program change theres a number, u gotta number each program a different number, and then u go to the main screen and highlight the pgm: thing hit open window and switch it to yes, it says somethin like transit program changes? anyways if u use the data wheel it scrolls thru the numbers 1-24, each number corresponds to the program which u set the number for earlier in the program screen......maybe i mispoke/misunderstood....u can use mor ethan 4 programs throughout an entire beat, but only drum 1-4 simultaneaously, i think itll change whatever drum 1-4 u have selected on the track and change the program to whatever number u set it to.....im not bullshittin yall, if u really dont believe me try it out sometime.....like i said tho it gets confusing and it **** up sometimes, i would say its much easier to jus keep it to 4 programs total

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... me+changes

just found this...the last post from MPC TUTOR HIMSELF....
"Make sure you read up about program changes. This allows you to use all 24 programs in one sequence if you want - just fire off a program change event in step edit when you want to change the program assigned to the DRUM holder on that track."

choosing from 1-24 pgms and using more than 4 at once is something sightly different

Program 'CHANGE', not add

^^^That is correct.

Keep in mind if you are using EB-16 that it only applies to one of your active programs (as defined). Be sure that you don't have 2 programs that rely on effects active at the same time or they will not sound the same.
