is the 2500 multi timbral?

as in on the mpc 1000, if you set up cubase with 16 channels of midi, all set to different channels it'll play only on the track you have active on your mpc?, or can it play more than one external midi input at once on different tracks?

Of course the mpc is multitimbral everyone knows that. As far as what your asking I neva hooked my mpc up to the cpu but Im almost positve you can do what your asking. You can make ya MPC do whatever u want it too, just try

i wouldnt know, i dont have one!

the mpc 1000 doesnt do it, and i say that if the 2500 does it, it has a major advantage over the 1000

not the mpc 1000, it can play multiple tracks at once, but any external device can only control ONE track at a time.

I think I see where you are heading. It appears that you want to use the MPC as the multi-timbral sound module sequenced to Cubase. I never thought about using it that way. Especially when the better way is to record MPC tracks directly into Cubase as AUDIO. But there is no way to assign the individual programs in the MPC to their own MIDI channel. There is also no way tp assign the MPCs 2 MIDI INPUTS to individual tracks.

Can you explain exactly what you are trying to accomplish? Do you currently onw an MPC 1000?

If you have recorded MIDI tracks in Cubase...you can save these as a standard MIDI file and load this file into the MPC for playback. Or you can assign a MIDI channel and VSTi instrument on each Cubase track and use the MPC to record/sequence these intruments.

well i like to put down the basic idea for a song along all the tracks, and then record it in MIDI data into cubase and perfect it, but when you have to do one track at a time its kind of limited.

I am trying to follow you....

So, you want to do all the ideas and basic sequencing on board the MPC. Then record the MIDI data from the MPC into Cubase?

yes, and i like to put all the drums on one track on my MPC, sync midi to reason, then seperate each drum sound to a seperate track, but when you play it back, you'll just get a big mush up of EVERY single midi not you recorded, the MPC will not differentiate between them

You are starting to jump all over the place with this thread. Lets keep this simple. Are you using the MPC with Reason or Cubase? Lets start with one first.

Are you just using MIDI or are you putting sounds into the MPC?

it doesnt matter
ANY external sequencer.

say you have 5 tracks on an external sequencer, you have the first one as midi track 1, then 2 as 2 etc etc.
if you have 5 programs set up on your MPC for those sounds to play through, they won't
ALL THE INPUT WILL PLAY ON THE PROGRAM SELECTED, REGARDLESS OF CHANNELS etc.

It matters if you want a accurate response to your question.

I hope someone else comes along and help out because you have now lost me.

As I have mentioned before, the MPC 2500 is not a multi-timbral sound module. No one in their right mind would buy it to work the way I think you are trying to communicate. The MPC 2500 is used to control multi-timbral synths, including software synths (Reason, Cubase VSTi, ect). WHen using the MPC with another sequencer, you don't want the external sequencers tracks to play whats loaded into the MPC. The best method is to lock the external sequencer with the MPC using MTC, MIDI clock, or MMC.
