Guru's,

Tonight I purchased my dream keyboard. A Roland Fantom X6. I now have it at home and have the MPC B OUT hooked via MIDI to the Fantom X6 IN. I configured the MPC as the master and the Fantom as SLAVE-MIDI. Setting it up like this I can press play on my MPC and it will play on the Fantom. But, what I really want to do is use the sounds on the X6 on my MPC.

I would prefer to use the keyboard as an interface to play the sounds on the keyboard and use the MPC for my bass lines. Does this make sense? How can this be done?

If I press a key on the keyboard I want that event to be recorded on the MPC. So that if I hit 10 events on the MPC and 10 on the keyboard, they are all recorded.

Hope I am not too confusing.

Please help,
Blessed

no swett i have the phantom x8 all you have to do is complete the loop midi out from the mpc to the midi in of they keyboard. midi out of the key board to the midi in 1 of the mpc, with this set up the mpc is the master that means your sequences will be recorded on the mpc dont sleep on that keyboard i have been telling these knucle-heads on this site about this keyboard ever since i got it. the features or sick. use the mpc-1009 for bass and drums and the keyboards for other sound. here is the link for some tutorial video

here's the step-by-step...

on the fantomx click on the "mixer" button. click on "part view" (f2) go to the part (channel) that you want you bass on (lets just use part 2 for my example). cursor down to part 2, high-light the patch name (probably Ulimate Grand...), and press "enter". that'll bring up the patch browser. find the bass patch you want. i just chose "X Finger Bs2" 'cause it was first. press "f8" for "select". that'll take you back to the "part view". now, curor over to the column that says "Kb" and twist the job-dial to the right. you should see an red check-mark. That means that this part does not respond to the Keyboard.

now, go to you MPC and to to the main screen. set a track to MIDI and the out chanel to "2". Push a pad and you should hear the bass from the FX6.

g'luck.

p.s. you can also use the Split/Layer screen to accomplish the same stuff but I worrk in Mixer mode most often. you can set the Fx6 to boot up into Mixer mode which is way more useful than patch mode. patch mode is pretty useless if want to exploit the multi-timbral features of the Fantom...

the above guy knows his stuff that is exactly how i am set up the only draw back to the phantom though is that it has no hard drive so for a guy like me who like to have my sound library at my finger tip a one gig cf card will have to do

p.s congradulation i heard your mammy came in second place in the world strongest man competition., peace....
