4 midi outs

so in laymans terms what is four midi outs going to change for me from 2 midi outs ?

The 4 MIDI outs is just that...additional MIDI outs. It just gives you more MIDI channels to work with. It also steers you away from daisy chaining synths together. Unless you have a room full of synths and keyboards, you may not need them.

it also lets you divide off your midi equipment to keep things from talking to each other or receiving messages that they shouldn't. in addition it also lets you reuse midi channels so effectivly you can have 64 midi tracks (16 * 4. although you'd probably be hard-pressed to find a real use for that many). yet another option would be to keep synths on the same channel. my alesis ion is a real pain to reprogram in new midi channels since it is by "program" and not system wide so i really don't want to use anything but channel 1-4 on it. in addition, i already have a lot of sequences that sequence my fantomx and i used midi channels 1-4. rather than reprogramming anything i just use different midi outs and there are no collisions. and lastly, it reduces midi latency because stuff isn't daisey chained together [as much].

sure, that's possible. you can do it a number of ways.

1. you can have a different module on each out like you described.
2. you can have small chains off each out:

sound module 1 -> sound module 2 -> mpc-a
sound module 3 -> sound module 4 -> mpc-b

if you're creative with it you can control some pretty complicated midi configurations. also, you can specify which midi outs receive midi clock: a, b, c, d, ab, cd, or all. you can also configure soft-through in the same way: a, b, c, d, ab, cd, all.

it's really versitile and flexible.

Just to piggy back and clarify....

You can specify which of the MPCs MIDI OUTS will transmit the MPCs MIDI CLOCK. You can also use the Sof Thru function to route incoming MIDI data received from the MPCs MIDI INPUTS (from external gear..including MIDI clock) to one or more of the MPCs MIDI OUTS.

i have mid A and B on my Proteus 2000 (w/ mp phatt and world), midi C to my ASR-10 and midi D to Reason 3.0. AND ITS LOVELY
