anybody know if we'll be seeing a general price drop for all retailers soon?

The black eye in the game is the new 1000 O.S. it's really gonna blur the lines between the MPC's.

Maybe and maybe not. So far everyone here is operating the MPC 2500 on OS 1.00b. The MPC 1000 is reported to get OS 2.0. There is no telling what the future holds for the MPC 2500 which is suppose to get at least one OS update this year (word on the streets).

jahrome,
I agree but with the combo of the price of a new 1000 let alone the price of a used one, the new O.S. makes it a deal that's hard to pass.
The real thing is how long will Akai hold the price on the 2500, think just how crazy a deal the 2500 would be with a $200-300 price reduction.
We should see price movement once they finish purging the remaining 2000xl's if nothing more than dealer pricing.
They are already showing at $1499 on many sites.

I am just glad that the release of the 2500 and the forth coming 1000 O.S. at least shows that the Akai restrutcture is trying to push forward, so you feel comfortable with future O.S. updates happening to add features not just to fix a bug.
I know there's a small base of 2500 users but at least 1.00 isn't getting crazy bug post.
Hopefully by the end of November we will have enough users to see the real 2500.

Right now, although the advertised price for the 2500 is $1999, quite a few are going for $1600, which makes it the cheapest MPC to date (not including the 1000). With the new OS update for the MPC 1000, they can still move plenty of units with a $999 price tag. I think the price of used MPC 1000s (which is still fairly new) will go up slightly.
At those prices ($600 difference), I can't see why any MPC 2000XL or 1000 user wouldn't make the jump.

As far as 'bugs' in the 2500, there are some, but none that will be a show stopper. They will most likely get fixed before a significant amount of people here get their hands on one.

Probably because the XL has been the XL for so long without change that most XL users have jsut gotten really use to them and are watching the 2500 or waiting to see it in person.
Remember when Akai released the XL and it's price was lower than the original 2000 but had added features and the flip display and people were like I can't believe it.
The 2500 pretty much is doing the same thing it's cheaper I just don't think people are adding the cost of the additional outs and EB card to the cost comparison.
Add the additional hardware and the new features and it's a bargain deal no doubt.
Plus in comes in black.
The thing I think will be questionable is how will the 1000 update affect the used 2000/2000xl market.
There will be people wanting and buying the 2k's but what will they be willing to pay?
Comparing it to the 2500 leaves a good market but the 1000 will thin that down with it improved features.

That's a great price. While you're waiting for the 2500 you can shop for your memory, hard drive, and CD-M25. And don't forget the new cables too!

What are the specs on these items and where can they be purchased from? Thanks
