I haven't had this problem, but i'd re-instal the os to fix it.

I will say thin AGAIN. It is near impossible to have a corrupt OS in the MPC1000. This isn't Windows or Mac.

1) The MPC uses a small single file OS.
2) The MPC will not write this OS to flash during install/update unless it passes a checksum. This ensures that the OS that is actaully in there is good.
3) The MPC does not write to or modify the OS file during operation. This is what makes it significantly different from computers where you have software that routinely changes/overwrites/corrupts OS files.

So there are designs in place make sure that the only a good OS get loaded and then once it is there it does not change.

is it possible for it to be corrupt while he was updating and he turned it off or the power went out or he thought it was done and he turned it off without letting it restart? or to be messed up? or does it have a saftey feature if it does turn off during an update?

Not really. It is possible to do a bad BIOS flash on a computer, and its pretty difficult for any programs etc to have power to control it and **** your PC up.
Even though sometimes are physically impossible on electronic hardware, sometimes stuff like reflashing etc can help fix problems.
