I miss my mpc 3000.

Any particular reason why you sold it?

Besides buying a 2500..

That was the only reason. My 3000 was used for drums and sequencing keyboards....now that I have another MPC with the additional MIDI OUTs and more advanced MIDI features (MSB/LSB per track) and multiple programs per sequence..it would have just remained as a collectors item.

Naw..but if you are an individual that has several multi-timbral synths, it is nice to be able to dedicate a MIDI OUTPUT to each device. That is one of teh reasons I loved the MPC 3000/60. You get all of this with the 2500 but you now get the added feature of setting the MSB/LSB per track. I use the Motif ES-R, XV-5080, FantomXR, and the Proteus 2000 (6,8,9,10 banks of preset sounds respectively). Using the MSB/LSB settings and program changes for each track, I have easy access to several thousand sounds without leaving the MPC 2500. If you are into sampling sound modules, you can run the outputs of the sound module into a mixer or AD/DA converter..and run the outputs of one of those to the INPUT of the MPC 2500. Thus using the INPUT THRU function to sample these synths (while the sequncer is playing or stopped) into the MPC 2500. No, you don't need these functions..but these are great to have for MIDI heads.

But..back to the MPC 3000. I will most likely get another one day and get it customized by Forat.

That midi MSB/LSB sounds interesting. I'm hoping to decrease my dependence on sampling someday and get a couple more synths and real instruments to mess with. (Got a bass and b flat clarinet, a cheap electric and acoustic guitar, and a violin laying around here somewhere.) Can't wait to take either some drum or sax lessons in the future. Anyhow, back to the topic, I've been wanting to check out that 2500 but just ain't had the time to drive to GC. Probably ain't for me thought, I like simplicity and straight foward type of gear and my old 2000xl wasn't cuttin it for me so I doubt the 2500 will. 4 midi outs, 2 midi in's, 8 outs stock, digital in, timestreth and all that sounds nice though...

Obviously, it's the stereo recording that you miss, as well as the increased velocity gain in your playback. when you sample with a mpc-60 in mono you only get half the coloration of the full stereo signal.

You currently have an MPC 60II right? The only way that MPC 2000XL wouldn't cut it is due to the lack of additional MIDI outs, or you are a member of the 'vintage gear' cult

I can't see how the XL isn't simple. If you know the MPC 60, you can use an MPC 1000, 2000/2000XL, 2500, or 3000.

SLT - Quit bullsh*ttin' man. You got the most priceless samplers in Hip-Hop history in your lab. Forget about the 3000 man, it's not THAT tight.

I am a member of the vintage gear cult, but I totally agree with Jahrome that keeping it around with the 2500 around just wouldn't make sense.

the 2500 and the 1000 now are some of the best MPC products, they addressed the shortcomings of the 2000/XL, and added features that were a long time coming. It's good to see them catching up, hopefully they will start pushing the envelope soon. the 2500 is a great start.
