Recording live guitar/bass into the mpc.

What setups you guys using.

if im just recording a loop i'll do it through my dj mixer and sample myself playing.

for longer parts, i'll record into ableton and sync the mpc up.

I never record directly into my mpc. I sync the mpc up to cubase and plug my guitar in the pc soundcard....

I got a friend that played guitar for me. guitar into a little effects box... then from the effects box right into the mpc... I had the mpc in play back while in the record screen... He played for a few minuts over the beat to come up with a riff... then I just hit record.

after that I trimed the front and end off of the new gutar sample and laid it in the sequece. He plays pretty tight so it fit well... Overall it worked out. that is one method. Besides, I don't like the guitar to be quantized anyway. It make everything swing a little.

Record to your multi track , then you can sample from there...that way you're not locked to the original tone of the guitar - you can add FX, compression etc as the tune requires

I will run my gutiar audio threw my fantom rack->mixer->soundcard so i can get the effects i want(on the fantom rack), i will record a riff to wav file on my computer and chop it on my mpc.

Or if i just wanna play along with the beat i will slave the mpc to protools and record the guitar direcoty protools. It just depends on what im trying to do...

if were to record a loop straight to my mpc, then i'd prob do that later on when i'm mixing down. so i'm not locked to having whatever effects sounded good at the time. can always add effects later.

but i see the advantage of recording to a multitrack and sampling from that, probably get a better take out of it.
