I own an MPC 1k and a Fantom X6, but I'm trying to figure out how to really start jamming with this setup. So far I have gotten to the point where my MPC is the master, my Fantom is the Slave. I can record my bass lines on my MPC and I can record sounds on my Fantom and here them play'd back when I press the play on the MPC. But what I can figure out is...

Why can I only get 1 track on the Fantom. I'm used to laying a drump loop on the MPC then going up a track and doing another instrument so on and so forth tell I have my beat. With the Fantom this method doesn't work. If I record track 1 as me playing the Grand piano on the Fantom and then go to the MPC and lay over that existing track onto track 2 it doesn't work. It just ignores the fact that I'm playing over it! I can here it live, but when I play it back, all I hear is the original track 1. This has got to be me not understanding enough about MIDI. What am I doing wrong or not understanding?

i'm not that familiar with the fantom but all synth/keyboards have the same principle, turn local off on and turn it to multi-timbral. on the mpc, bottom left where it says "type" turn it to midi then turn Pgm "off" then over to the bottom right where it says Midi, turn it to 1A. now each track on the mpc that you want your fantom to play on you have to change the midi (bottom right) to the next midi channel and respectively on the fantom. all of this is assuming you have the midi cables connected the right way.

I'm not sure you are actually "slaving" the fantom to the mpc.

Basically you're just using the fantom as a sound module/controller (unless for some reason you are using both sequencers).

I have a fantom as well. So midi on the mpc is 1a = channel 1 on the fantom in mixer mode, 2a on mpc = channel 2 on the fantom ...

You need to select the second channel on the fantom before you track to the 2a midi track on the mpc.

did u go into ur system menu on the fantom? make sure sync mode: slave-midi. ur mpc should be at reviece all, thru as track...and sync in 2, sync out a. at least thats how i have my mpc mastering my fantom.

Hi Bless,
I have the 1k and the Fantom X8.

If you are using the MPC 1k as a master you must:

1. Set the Fantom to Slave-Midi
2. Set the MPC 1K as a master
3. Have the Fantom in "Song Edit Mode"
4. Have proper Midi In/outs on both units
5. Select appropiate Midi Channels ie 1a or 1b on the MPC.

If you have all the above settings and select your sounds through the Fantom "Song Edit Mode" channel by channel you should be pumping some wicked sounds using the 1k as a Master...

ive been having this same problem hooking my fantom x 8 and my mpc 1000 thru my mixer.i think i have them connected right with th e pathc cords and midi cables.i also have the fantom set as slave-midi and the mpc as master.i synced the mpc AB.the problem is i cant even load my samples on the mpc.and every time i try and record i have to first press record on the fantom and then recprd on the mpc.it dosent give me a count in or anything.i cant even use the sounds from the mpc and fantom seperately.this shit really pisses me the **** off

Hi Qoorbz,
If you have all the cables connected correctly and the proper settings (Slave-Midi) and MPC as a master, you should only have to hit record-play start and the Fantom X8 will follow the MPC automatically...

If you have any problems connecting or with settings, you can give Roland a call and they can walk you through it. That's how I got through my issues with the Fantom. Those guys are on point...

Peace & Blessings,
