Hi folks,
been messing about in music production for a couple of months now and I think a MPC1000 is the way to go. Especially now I've been reading up on this OS update that Sparq has been so kindly, not to mention patiently with all the questions, filling everyone in on! Reason being that on the PC i tend to get distracted and can't stay focused cuz there's too many distractions, more sounds to download, more websites to read, more VST's and programs to take a play with.

Having an MPC means im gonna focus on that and aren't restricted to sitting on the PC where I'll just end up reading message boards. Means I can take it down my girls house, round my mates house and be alot more free to create! Like the fact that it's much more tactile and intuitive also!

Anyway the couple of questions I have are:

BEST / CHEAPEST PLACE TO PURCHASE FROM IN THE UK? Christmas is coming up but don't know if I can wait that long....wanna get the most bang for my bug (memory expansion etc) I know alot of the list prices are pretty much the same but then certain places are more willing to lower their price if you ring 'em up and say you can get it cheaper at so and so.....

Importing a SECOND HAND one from the US??? Before everyone tells me to SEARCH the forums...dont worry I HAVE! ;) Discovered that I won't need a stepdown converter as it's dual voltage no? However how does the deal with VAT and import tax work with it being second hand..i've been told that as it's second hand then these (or at least the VAT) don't need to be paid? Is this correct and does the seller have to do anything on his part to ensure that I dont get stung for this when it arrives?

Would be very grateful if I could get some quick answers back to these...no rush like ;) ....but I will appreciate it alot! Expect to be seeing more of me on here. I aim to produce US / Deep House (MAW, Blaze, Quentin Harris, Chez Darnier style) and Hip Hop.

Thanks for your time!

SUSHI

yes BLUD!

Answer 1: The cheapest is probably, Turnkey, Dolphin Music, maybe Digital Village....To be honest buy it BRAND NEW! so u get receipt! just incase for warrenty issue etc NO WARRENTY and no ReTURNS if you buy in the U.S.

Answer 2: You dont need a Stepdown Convertor just a kettle lead, all mpc's are 110 to 230 Volts..

all the best.

Cheers guys....

BLUD??

Posted this in the newbie section and got a bit of advice in there aswell, think I am gonna go for the new option....hopefully they'll release this new black option by then. Don't mind the blue one but if I'm getting it at christmas, gonna be a bit gutted if the black one drops a few weeks later. We'll see I guess.....

Thanks for your time guys, any little pointers you wanna throw my way? Just a quick question.... what sort of price am I looking at for the 128 mb Ram upgrade?

My folks have just bought 6 2gig CF cards (they're professional photograhers) so i'm sure they will come in handy! ;) Bwahaha!

I found www.imuso.co.uk to be the cheapset - but that was about 10 months ago. Aslo if you're checking Tunkey and DV247.com look in in B-STOCK listings you can get discounts.

You can get a 3rd party RAM chip much cheaper than buying the AKAI one. I upgraded my MPC last weekend with a £25 chip. Turnkey and the like sell the AKAI module for about £100. You need to get a 256MB PC133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM chip and you should be fine. There are a few threads and links below you might find useful:

sticky thread on RAM upgrades and CF cards - http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=26775
sparq's thread on the new OS has a video showing you how to upgrade the RAM chip - http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=38069

Sushi, welcome to the boards. one bit of advise, you can't double post like this. when you have a question, figure out which section of this forum your quesion is most suited for.

since this is not a technical question regarding the mpc1000, i am locking this thread and i'll leave the one in the newbie section for ppl to still give you direction.

We can't have multiple threads asking the same thing.

again, welcome to the boards.
