Damn Protools

Ok, i was trying to clean up my music drive by categorizingand put songs into there rightful folder. what i did was cut the files and placed them in there folders, now when i go to open em up it says access violation. what can i do to get them back working or im i SOL? it was about 30 songs i lost. any help would be appreciated

when you say "cut" what do you mean? I wouldnt think this would bring up an access violation error, if anything it should bring up the missing files window and give you th option of searching for them automaticaly or manualy.

if you altered the files outside of PT then PT won't recognize them as the files that were being used before and you're probably SOL.

SMDH, Digidesign should be ashamed of themselves....

sounds like the files were moved, and the Software is having trouble locating where the root is

i cut them in windows explorer. how would you move them for future references. cause i think im done in

I still aint sure what you mean by "cut" but for future reference all you have to do to move sessions around is either copy/paste them to a new location or drag the folder to a new location. When you do this you should be copying the whole session folder containing the pts file, Audio Files folder and any other folders that might be in there(Session File Backups, Fade files, etc.). When you go to open the session again you might get a screen asking you to verify the location but it should load fine

If you make changes to any of the files in these folders PT will not recognize them and should ask you if you want PT to locate them or if you want to maualy relink them. When you have the session open in PT you can also save a session copy which will save an exact duplicate of everything in the session to wherever you want

If you want to clean up any unused or un-needed files then you have to do that within PT. You can select unused regions, unused regions except for the original file and offline regions. You can then delete the files from only that session or from the hard disk altogether.

i know what happened, the same thing happened to me about a year ago.... are all of your files that u did in that session together, such as, audio, Midi, etc..., cause, i tried transferring them before like that too, but i had not inserted my audio files along with the session icon to that hard drive, which would of course be a conflict

Ok when i say cut its one of the commands when you right click, like copy and paste. but i see my problem, i didnt do them inside of protools i did it in explorer so i guess i am SOL unless a computer genius knows how to bring em back to life

hahah you can use system restore point, thats if your using XP, if so tell the computer to go back the day before you made your changes.

system restore will bring it back to life
