"Without messing with the other sounds."

I do not understand. Explain what this is to you.

In program mode I see 4 drum programs 1-4. I have used them all up and so when i try to change the track, and then choose a different program. The sounds in the new program I choose start playing.

you need to us program change messages at the start of the new seq....each program has a program change number...you need to insert that into the start of thes equnce...that way when they change the mpc will send a message to itself saying use the prog 5 for seq 2....

"I have used them all up"

That pretty much covers it. Once you use up the 4 programs you do not get any more without switching out at least one of the existing ones.

For simultaneous programs consider the alternatives:
MPC60: 1 program
MPC3000: 1 program
MPC2000: 1 program
MPC4000: ?
MPC1000: 24 programs

Many people consider 4 simultaneous programs a blessing. Still a few of these don't need them since they got by for many years with only 1 program. MPC1000 is going to spoil us all.
