Well, you don't need a computer...but you will need something to record with...unless you only want to play live or have the loot to pay a studio. You can use a dedicated recorder from Tascam, Fostex etc. Anyway, most people will agree that a combination of software and hardware is the way to go these days...especially with a limited budget.

1. IS it possible to make beats all alone in this fashion with the MPC 1000
2. How do i sample the sounds into the 1K
hellp would be really apreciated....peace

yo man, it doesnt matter what you have, if you wanna truley be didecated to music and making music, you need to eat sleep and drink it....i barely turned 18 less than a month ago, but to be honest your going to question yourself to this music stuff and your going to doubt yourself, all you gotta do is think about music 24/7 and learn about music and all types of styles and stuff....i made alot of sacrafices, i mean their would be times where i would ignore my girl and my crew who wanted me to paint and bomb the streets i would rather be making beats.....i didnt take showers for days at a time and i didnt buy new cloths.....im still rockin year old adidas and still wearing 3 jeans a week for almost a year now.....you might call me crazy but when i look at all the records i got it makes me wonder how much money i put into this to give it up....i got music to last me a life time but i still pick up a leon haywood for a dollor even though i have it already becasue i know i can give it to someone else who wants to do what i am doing.........I dont paint with my crew anymore or spend time and money with my girl but when they are out the door i still got my graffiti flicks and with the flick of my wrist i can make some of this hip hop sheit.....

Blah, Blah, Blah... this is an exaggeration. No offense, but the guy asked a simple, newbie question and you gave him a manifesto. Relax.

solah dont worry about this. i said the exact same thing as you did pretty much in another thread someplace else and i think it was this guy yoshimi who dismissed it just as quickly saying i was exaggerating even though i was speaking humble truth.

but anyway, i agree with you.

to be totally honest with you (IMO) obviously, you must have a turntable with a mixer since you said you have records. if that is the case, right now, i wouldn't worry about any other piece of gear until you master (or at least have a very high confidence level) the gear you have, the 1000. that should keep you for a while. if you don't already have it, get the 128mb ram for the 1k, and a couple of CF cards. start sampling the hell out of records you have. chop up and make drum kits. (to learrn how to chop on the 1k, watch my video..... yeah, i know, selfless plugg) but seriously, do that. when you start making beats, resample your beats back into the mpc and save those as big samples then put those on a separate CF card. (finished beats CF card) learn the hell out of the 1k with it's current OS. don't be afraid to push buttons, tweek setting and parameters. (that's just a way of experimenting and learning your craft of what you have) when the new OS comes out, you will be able to timestrech and pitch shift those samples to make things a lot easier for you. oh and get a decent pair of headphones (unless you have monitors already)

once you have that down, then and only then should you worry about what other gear to get or even think about getting a computer. you might get to a point where you don't want a computer and just record to multitrack mixer that has a hard disk and cd burner on it.

i just want to emphasize, learn what you got b4 you get anything else.

this is where i made one of my many mistakes. i picked up an mpc while i was still learning reason. then, a month later, i got my first turntable, serato scratch live and a radium 49. and to think- i was about to order an sp404!!!!

i've only just now caught up to myself and i still don't know how exactly to use the radium's special features. maybe it's cuz i do'nt have a manual...who knows.

here you go.. my gift to you. the radium49 manual

the reason you learn what you got b4 you get anything else is so you can have time to focus on one thing. ppl tend to get overwhelmed when they have so many toys to play with at the same time.

Great post. I went through the same sh1t to get my first MPC (60). It was all worth it. In the end though everything eles is material and can be taken away....your knowledge is there forever.

Use that knowledge to get the fire started.
