how to get that hard hitting reggae(not dancehall) bass?

By the way, lots of Jamaican stuff on hot 97.1 (NY radio) again. Ever since jamrock it's been stronger, you get sean Paul, Richie Spice, and some other stuff in between young jeezy (who I'm feelin too) and the rest of it. hell even lil Kim's rip of jamrock is pretty dope. I'm glad its changing up a bit, yesterday they played laffy taffy with the intro "Now I know all of you are hating this song, but it's the shyt at the clubs" translation=just got the payola!

I like the richie spice track, anything in that dubby style done well is hard to not get excited about. love how that bass hits.

It's a cool thing reggae's rising NY again; it should be bigger though >> HipHop has deep roots in reggae music...
I never went to NY (hope i will this year), but i feel like, make it happen is harder for the JA ppl, it should have more collab beetween artists as well...

It seems the success of jamaican acts here depends on how easy they are to understand when they sing. If they go too fast then you can;t expect it to hit the hip hop station.

Yeah Jaem, we got reggae stations all over, but to hear this much on 97 weekdays indicates a bit of a stretch. Maybe they got some new DJ's but it's got me tuning in from tme to time.

I didn;t hear the Jr. Gong remix, but I also haven;t heard jamrock on there in a while. but kims joint is nice.


yeah the Sean paul stuff isn't my thing usually, but that burinin every day track has some heavy weed references and the beat is dope, the tune is catchy too, but I hear you, it's just a sign that they are getting some variety back.

I nice dedicated analog low pass filter always works...wether on real bass or synth.

yea but when reggae artist sing you can understand em but when they speak you cant, its the slang and boy is it a wonder....I vistited family there for thankgiving and shit the weather was a wonder and the people were kool but the poverty is what gets me....i saw where reggae music came out of ya know and it was a good feeling passin by the lot where black ark once was..man was a journy.

man the upsetter has made some upsetting tracks ever since he moved to digital im thinking mid 80's and i dont like that type of stuff....

Usually sundays is when you get reggae on Hot 97, I don;t know the dj name, but you're probably right. I mainly tune in to hype radio 87.9 which gets broadcast in the UK and the islands too I think, since people call in from Jamaica and london all the time.

I'm talking about durring regular radio play, durring the "hip hop and RnB" which is in their tagline, more and more Reggae is poppin up, and it is largely because of the success of Jamrock. Which is good cuz it means someone up there is caring about playing good music and not just popular music.

Yeah man, if you look at everything that gets popular in the states, it's all easier to understand stuff, slow and a bit clearer than the rapid fire stuff. It's just how it is in the US. In the 80's a lot of people didn;t get into hip hop because they couldn't understand what they were saying, because they were talking fast and they couldn;t follow some of the lingo, (even stuff like PE ) but with exposure they eventually came around to understand a bit more. Funny how the US market is.

BobbyKonder is a big name for dance-hall freaks! He used to run his sound with an MC called "Jabba", got his recording label called "Massiv'B" with studio in Brooklyn. He tracked down cats such like BuruBanton,BujuB, RedFox, JohnnyOsbourne among others...
In Guadeloupe & StMartin we've got those radios that play from Dominica, StLucia even StVincent that let you know wah gwaan in others islands... So it's reggae/dance-hall all week.

Yo, I watched the jamrock video on AOL music on demand and the censorship is just too much. Even the video on his site has every reference to guns blanked out. shyt is ridiculous. I feel like erase the gun violence from the streets and then you can remove it from the music, but removing it from the music just helps it stay in the streets.

AOL was the worst. What I remember being blanked out.

"murder" in the chorus sample
"pound" as in 2 pound up in da van back.
"Contact" as in smell'll give ya girlfriend contact
"shot"
"magazine"
"clap it"

There was a lot more, but that's all i can remember, it was just disgusting. making the track like swiss cheese. I think they made that the ultra clean version, cuz some of them words AOL just doesn't know.

Is it something in Jamaica that has so much censorship? or is the problem over here? Cu even the video on his website has some gun words blocked out,
