Newbie: My MPC freezes everytime I try to connect midi

Ok, I'm new, just got my MPC 2000XL for about a month. I've been messing with it, I also have a cheap midi controller and a turntable. Most of the beats I did so far is all sample-based. So last week I decided to get a sound module to add to my set up. I got the Motif Rack off eBay.

Now here's my problem.

I understand how to hook them up via Midi, setting the Motif Rack to Multimode and all that. But whenever I switch from "Drum" to "Midi" on my MPC, the MPC will freeze. Like no button works whatsoever. First I thought the MPC was having some problem. So I unhooked the Motif Rack and everything is still fine. I tried to reconnect the Motif Rack, switch from "Drum" to "Midi" on the MPC, and it froze again.

Is there anything wrong with my MPC or the way I set them up?

I have set it up like this:

MIDI OUT (my midi controller) ---> MIDI IN 1 (MPC2kXL)
MIDI OUT (MPC2kXL) ---> MIDI IN (Motif Rack)
MIDI OUT (Motif Rack) ---> MIDI IN 2 (MPC2kXL)

I'm not 100% sure but it sounds like it could be something with the Motif.I'm not saying mecahnical,i mean as far as the settings.Have you checked the settings on it to make sure they're correct?

Try taking out that last midi connection.
out(motif rack) ----->IN(mpc2000xl)

why do u have that plugged in thats extra, thats what u would do if u wanted to have the rack as a controller, which u cant. Try removing that midi connection and see what happens

@ Jackpot: I disconnect the last midi connection like you suggested but it still froze

@ stryke: I don't think it's the Motif. All the settings are correct. I even hook up my cheap midi controller's MIDI OUT to the Motif's MIDI IN and I'm able to play notes from the the Motif so I doubt that's the problem.
