tell him to plug the 1k into his pc by usb. go into the mpc save or load page then hit usb. he can then browse the contents of the CF card in the 1k from his computer. select the samples/programs he wants to remove and delete or move them to a folder in his pc. make sure he knows to remove the (usb) hardware via his desktop before unpluging the cable from the mpc.

those presets are stored on the CF card, it doesnt have an internal harddrive. everything you save & load is onto/from the CF card or by usb to your pc. theres a thread in here about buying an harddrive and the adapter kit needed for the 1k if your friend is interested.

you mean the internal flash?

i deleted mine thinking id put my own default programs on them but they take ages to save so there wasnt much point. and they dont drain on your 16meg cos the flash mem is exclusive

the akai site has the factory data on its site. i think thats all the stuff from the internal mem. the cf had loads more stuff on it if i can recall like the demo songs that first loaded up on your first boot

Presets are stored on the internal memory... You have to turn off the autoloading (I'm not in front of my 1k or I'd say exactly how...) But once you turn off the auto loading... load up w/e programs you want to load automatically and then save all samplesa nd programs to the internal memory (no big programs though or it won't save...)
