Moving pad events

Alright, super noob question, but I've been using the MPC1k really heavily for about a year. Can you move pad events (say all pad A01's to A02) in a track? It doesn't seem so. Ive been through the book.

In SEQ EDIT you can TRANSPOSE midi note events (except pad events) for a range of time on a track. You can swat the pad and it shows/hides under NOTE. But you can't do anything about it.

I have a beat track that I've made with a particular kit. Now that I've got my s**t together, I've got my kits better organized and I'm updating all my sequences. Prob is, kick, snare, etc were in the 'wrong' pads in the original kit. They were moved to play nice with some external drum trigger equipment, so PAD2 is kick and PAD6 snare. I know, PROGRAM->NOTE and all to reassign the midi note. But given the pile pf gear I'm using, I don't want more custom tweaks.

Right now it looks as though I have to remake all the beats from scratch. Ideas?

yes you can move them in the event screen if u highlight on the pad number and turn the dial.

I'm not following. Sure, in STEP EDIT mode you can change the note events individually by turning the dial. But say I want to move a hat pattern that is 160 bars long, and furthermore mixed in with a bunch of other pads.

This might be workable in STEP EDIT if you could filter note events by pad, but you can't.

Copy and paste your events to a new destination...or if it suits you, transpose the event so that it ends up triggering a different pad. Depending onwhich MPC you are using you may have to change it to a keygroup program first...

I don't think the MPC1k can do this, or maybe I'm being obtuse. You can C&P events to another time, or to another track. There is no way to transpose on a DRUM track that I can see.

the key is to set your tracks to MIDI instead of DRUMS. Then you can set in PROGRAM mode each pad to any MIDI note number. And harmonise all your programmes from taht point of view (Kick always on note 36, snare on note 37 or whatever. The LIDI note information will override the pad name info.

Thanks freezerman, that is indeed the key. I wasn't fully grasping the distinction between DRUM and MIDI tracks. Although rather than as you suggest, remapping MIDI notes in PROGRAM, I can now transpose the note in SEQ EDIT to elsewhere on the pad bank. If I change the note mapping in PROGRAM, then I get into trouble with my external drum triggers.

A little more tedious than working in DRUM mode, but still way better than reprogramming the whole sequence. Thanks.
