sp303 users---- drum mix??

I am about to cop a sp303. What i would like to know from those who use it is, can drums sampled on the sp303 cut nicely thru a mix? I like that analog sound on my drum sounds. This may sound dumb but my boy got the mpc60 and I love the drums outta that, and someone else told me that a sp303 can sound just like a mpc60 in a mix as far as the drums sound. Can anyone give me info if you got sp303 experience. Thanks in advance!

when i first got the SP-303 i never used it for drums unless i was in need to and i had to spend time nad effort to sample cut and mark em real good....but a year after getting it i used my friends computer one day, took some of his drum kits loaded em up to the smart media card and then loaded it up to my 303 and used it as a drum machine...but the 303 sounding like the 60.........i dont think it gives it the same pass and sound...you can with the effects with mroe punch and more kick but not the same sounding....

the 303 is a digital sampler - it has almost no inherent sound of its own beyond the effects

what gives the mpc 60 its sound is nothing about analognesss, its the low sampling rate. and its not something thats achived simpley by downsampling, its the charicter of the old tech.

the 303 is a great sampler - especialy for grabbing loops off vynal, quick time streaching syncing, blah- and the effects sound great, it has a "lowfi" option wich is a lower sample rate for extended recording times, which might sound almost kinda like an mpc 60 , but not really. your not going to get THAT sound unless you actualy buy an old s900 (which can be had very cheap {ebay}) or other 12bit sampler of that era, nothin emulates it.

that being said theres plenty to be done with lowfi drums in the sp303, its all about getting creative with your source material. think of it as a blank canvass -- if you record you drums through an old crappy preamp = lowfi drums -- through an old tape machine = lowfi drums , through a tin can phone = lowfi drums -- the possibilitys are endless

you know -- only as strong as the weakest link whatever - the sp303 is a very strong link - you can do anything with it , you just gotta make sure that your creativity isnt the weakest

I belive also it was a hardware piece that the sound would pass through and give it that sound....so it might be the sound chip, god the name has left my mind at the moment....but the Lo-fi rate with the efects will give you a satifiying sound.

A simple answer...yes, it can cut through a mix... as long as you put the right samples in it at the right level.

All the SP series samplers are nice! Personally, I'd recommend one of these over any s-950, sp1200 or whatever other 12 bit sampler out there. I have a bunch of 12bit samplers, and ever since I got my 303 (about 3 years ago) them old samplers are collecting dust. The 303 can sound clean, dirty, and anything in between. The lo-fi setting is cool, and with the lo-fi effect, you can dial in the amount of dirt you want. It won't duplicate any 12bit sampler, but it does a good job at sounding dirty. My only gripe is that you can't take advantage of the memory. As soon as you use up all the pads, you can't add any more sounds to it. A new OS with filder support would be wonderfull on the 202/303/505. Chances are it will never happen tho.
