Saving APS & Sequences To Floppy... (Yeah a damn Floppy)

Alright.. I just recently got the MPC 2000XL about 2 months ago, have a cd rom drive for it and zip drive (but don't have that cable yet for it) anyhow, YES.. I have to save on Floppy for right now. So I made a beat under Sequence 01.. added my effects, whatnot w/the overdub button and then went to save APS w/Sounds.. then saved the sequence. Now when I put this in my computer, the sequence sounds like a piano playing.. essentially a midi sound, why not my original beat? Having trouble figuring out why it's doing that. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

you cant save the sequence and an aps file to a floppy and open it up in your computer to play like a song.

So it's basically because it's on the floppy? Now if I got the cable to hook up the zip drive to the MPC or somehow hooked up the sampler to my pc, it would play fine? So I guess I'm saving it how I'm supposed to, BUT it's because it's on a floppy is what I'm following. Is that right?

You could do a couple of things....

1)Record straight into your compuer using the outs of the mpc to the cpu ins on your soundcard.Provided you have software to record to.

2)Format your zips on the cpu and use Mpc Editor to save/assign sounds and then walk them over to your mpc.

3)Use an interface between the cpu and mpc(still recording straight to the cpu)

Zips will work as long as you have a parallel drive connected to your cpu.But you may want to check on the Mpc Editor program if you want to do it that way.But it will boil down to whatever's easiest for you.

Nope, not a joke. I didn't waste my time like you did posting something that's not needed. I asked a question in the "newb" forum about something I'm having trouble w/. My apologies for not "knowing"... that is what this forum is about, generally. For questions and a little help.

Anyways, good looks stryke... I have it hooked up to my pc now, I hear everything fine but doesn't record when I try it in Cool Edit Pro, but I'll figure that out.

Just arm the track you want to record to and either solo the tracks,sync via midi if possible or use the 8 outs to seperate and track,if you have them.You should be good to go.

Good looks stryke! I'm gonna try that out and see what happens. I just bought on eBay the scsi zip drive cable so I'll begin saving on zip disks from now on, but anyhow I appreciate the help.

Yeah Lampdog, that's what I thought originally.. but then I changed the audio settings for the Midi playback option in my cpu but what it did was mute the sound out of the speakers. So I'm unsure about that problem, but thanks as well for your help. I have a soundblaster soundcard, so I dunno.

Inorder for your computer to play those samples and trigger them properly from the mpc you'd have to midi your mpc to the computer.
Save your seq's as MID. Get an audio program (acid) to play back the midi seq from your mpc. Point acid midi at your midi port where your mpc is connected. Get the midi channels right. Load the samples up in your machine.

There's a few more things to check for but you'll have to read up on midi cause I'm not about to go into teaching a class here, haha.

The way to do this is all over the forums though.

BUT, what ultimately happens is that acid will play those midi seq notes that trigger the exact same samples on your mpc. THAT IS IF YOU DO EVERYTHING CORRECTLY.
