New sounding drums

I like sampling breaks but the drums usually end up sounding 90's cos they're so dirty compared to today's productions. What are some examples of records I could look for that would supply punchy modern cleaner sounding drums? I'm about to get a gang of new records and I want to focus in on drums right now.

try some eq and compression.

A lot of drum samples that sound (what you define as) "modern" are blends of sampled breaks and tr-808/synth drums. And as the other guys said, EQ and compression helps a lot - modern drum sounds are a lot punchier and have more bass than "old" drum sounds.

In Ur Situation I'd Guess NOT........................

Breaks Were Recorded With Different Media I.E. Magnetic Tape Etc.
and then Transfered to Vinyl (Of Course) So Dirt and Extra warmth was the Code of the DAY.....................

Check out a Mophatt or Mophat sample Cds they are all over ebay. Nice newer synth bassed sounds that sound nice under breaks.

So do you guys compress on your way into the MPC or after the fact? Same with eq?

make the beat with the drums dry (no processing).
process the individual tracks inside your multitracker.

That's how many cats I know do it.
