find a friend with an MPC2000 and a save them all to zip/floppy on that is all I can think of.

BTW the 1000 can only read WAV, prog and midi files no .snd .all or.aps so transferring/converting maybe a bit time consuming

The MPC4000 has a SCSI port, if you decide on that model.

How compatible is the MPC4000 with stuff imported from the 2000? I haven't had a chance to get into all that yet?

It depends on where the sample came from and what was done to it. The two machines sound different. An unmodified WAV file should be usable. One of the first things I did a year ago was put the AKAI MPC2000XL factory CD into the MPC4000 and load several programs. From what I remember the sounds were all mixed up, completely unusable.

I didn't want to deal with the huge chore of converting the existing programs and samples on my MPC2000XL hard drive, so I approached the MPC4000 as another instrument in the studio. There was no reason for me to use only one MPC and convert old material because I liked the different sound of the MPC2000XL. The MPC4000 then started as a blank slate and collected only new songs and sequences.

thanks for that valuable feedback MPCProd, I think that is exactly how i want to approach it too , as converting stuff is such a ball ache specially when I've already got to do it for some live stuff for the 1000

I sort of feel as though with a 1000 and 4000 I should be kind of morally obliged to sell the 2000 - unless I actually need the money to buy food that could be a silly way of looking at it

I like that clean slate way of looking at it too

okay heres the thing im choosing btn the 4000 and the 1000 the 2kxl seems not to be factor since the 1000 seems to be th 2kxl killer if your buying them new. seems to make the 2kxl a match you have to spend almost 2 g's when you get the 1000 the only thing missing from being the 2kxl is the 4 outs compared against the 8 outs of the 2kxl which cost you more so 4 for free seems ok. also chromatic assign(i think thats the right term) i would love that in the 1000 and i wonder can the mpc 1000 do midi dumps to accomadate my s3000 (non xl). also what about the multi program use 9which may not matter to me i had a 2000(non xl) and just loaded what ever programs and pick the sounds i wanted and gave the program the songs name. are ther anyother things that 2kxl had that the 1k doesnt have or vice versa. if not im gonna get the 1k until i can afford the 4000. and is it possible to get akai to upgrade to certain features by asking them?
