aaaargghhhh, no it ain't the same

sorry guys but we been thru this already in another thread, and its clear in the manual when you look

24 programs
32 parts (polyphony)
each pad can trigger 4 samples at the same time or using velocity switching

therefore u can theoretically play 6144 sounds from 24 programs and you can sound any 32 of this at the same time

u won't need more that that

the only thing missiing is the drums which means you can't change a whole kit at one live (u can through midi program cahnges though)

to play 24 programs at the same time or to say its 24 parts multitimbral is exactly the same, it has nohing to do with polyphhony.

but I didn´t know about having 4 different samples at one pad, thanks for that richard. It makes sense now to have 6144 sounds in memory.

despite that I would need 128 programs just for flexibiltity of combination, isn´t that reason enough to have 128 programs, even when the mpc1000 does have only ability of being 24 parts multitimbral.

t'aint the same Mr Goof - the amount of programs has nothing much to do with polyphony. Because you can play 24 programmes at the same time but if 8 of those are triggering two samples from one pad then you'd need 32 parts multimbrailty/polyphony rather than 24 wouldn't you?

the MPC2000xl can only play 4 programs at the same time but its polyphony is much more that 4 part

I exactly know that issue, so my words make sense:

to play 24 programs at the same time or to say its 24 parts multitimbral is exactly the same, it has nohing to do with polyphhony
polyphony is a separate issue.
you can play 24 prgs at the same time with only 1 note polyphony at all at that time. Got what I mean?

well its just terminology then I guess - I coming to it from a synth background where what I'm saying makesmore sense

anyway its still a LOT for a diddy drum sampler!

"2. German Distributor: "24 part-multitimbral."
3. US Distributor: "24 simultaneous programs."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

is this not exactly the same?"

Technically not the same in general, but is correct to state this for the MPC1000. I just quoted the different distributors on the issue that I was the first to report on.

"the amount of programs has nothing much to do with polyphony."

Right, but no one argues that point. The previous poster said the same thing.

"Because you can play 24 programmes at the same time but if 8 of those are triggering two samples from one pad then you'd need 32 parts multimbrailty/polyphony rather than 24 wouldn't you?"

No, multi-timbrality has nothing to do with polyphony. The very example you provided could be played in the MPC with 32 voice polyphony and no voice loss.

Maybe richard's confusion starts here in his own quote:
"32 parts (polyphony) "

This would be more correct in saying 32 voice polyphony.
