zip drive partitions

couldn't quite find anything searching the forums regarding this..

I'm almost filled up my first zip disk (60), and I must have wasted a lot of space because I only used 4 partitions on the current one.

from the sample time/memory ratio, I figure a second is about 60kb.

for most of my beats, I only use about 5 seconds max (just drums on the 60) for the program. peep the math, lemme know if I'm on the right track..

5 seconds equal approx 300kb (typically 10 samples)

let's approximate the aps and all file with the samples to be 500kb in total for each beat I make (10 sample files, plus seq file plus aps file = 12 files)

the 60 only allows 224 files in each partition so 224/12 = 18 possible sets of tracks per partition.

18 sets x 500kb each set = 9000kb = 9mb each partition

on a 100mb zip disk, I should format 10-11 partitions?

does that sound right?

it depends how you save, I do 20 partitions, gives me about 5 MB's, which is usually enough for 3 full memory pgms and associated sequence files.

The biggest thing to keep in mind on the 60 is the partitions can be useful since it doesn't support folders.
Since you already know what your typical saving needs are you could make the partitions about that size and actually use them to help organize your work.
Make the best use of the partition size based on how you like to and need to work.
