Clipping on 1 track but not Main Mix

I have a MPC 4000, Motif ES, and a couple of other modules plugged into a Mackie 1604. When I use drum sounds from the Motif in a sequence the the Mackie indicates that the audio track of the Motif is clipping. However, the Main Mix is not clipping. Is this acceptable or do I need to make sure that none of the tracks are clipping? I've tried turning down the gain on the Motif track but then I don't hear the drums at all. This doesn't seem to be a problem when I use other sounds from the Motif just on drums.

don't clip on track one.

the main mix doesnt have to clip for one track to be clipping. alot of times u might not notice it until you read the meters (or ya sh!t is xtremly loud). turn to volume down on the motif and us the main volume to hear it all. try turning down the levels of the drums themselves

Add some compression/ limiting to tame the drums...try not to clip, but if you see it and can't hear it - why worry?

well some systems might distort while other might not....i guess....

i say, if you can fix it so it dosnt clip, do it. turn it as high as you can without it clipping.

I record as hot as possible w/o clipping into each track.
I then look at and figure out what peaks I need to limit.
Then soft limit and maximize every individual track to -1.0db inside Vegas.

That's usually my process but not always.

I was able to stop the drums from clipping by turning down the Volume on the midi channel in the ES itself. Thanks for all of your input.
