Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

OK. I love the 2000xl alot. Although, I'd be super happy to have realtime control over filter and pitch and levels. also, filtering is very big for me, so low, high and band pass is nice. My only dilemma would be the sample playback. I own an S2000 and think the playback is f-ing great. I like a little bit of grit without trying for it for sure. I understand the 2500 has the 1000 sample engine. I beleive the 1000 is crisper and cleaner than the 2000xl. I'm going to check out samples I have in my 2000 in the 2500 and see if it feels the same. I just was wondering if anyone has any thing to say to sway me. Don't get me wrong, I will be making the desiscion on my own, but need somethings that I might have to watch out for. Also, besides the sample engine, the 2500 seems more for me than the 2000 as far as editing and sampler features. Sound reproduction does mean alot to me, so keep that in mind.

Thanks all. Please do not respond unless you have some helpful info. I know I have to try them for myself, and I also know the end descision is on me. Right now, the 2500 seems the way to go. Let me know you MPCers.

large ammount of RAM, q link controlls, 4 midi outs, multimode filters. the list goes on. there are many points that make the 2500 so much better than the 2000xl, but for the rest of us financially challenged where just gonna have to stick with our guns.

I own the 2000xl And Ive used the 2500. I like the overall feel of the xl better since I owned it for so long and Im comfortable on it. On the 2500 I hate how the jog wheel clicks when u turn it like on the 1000. Also all of the shift keys are on the pads like the 1000. I hate that. Yeah it has 4 outs so what. Use a midi patch patch bay with your xl. The 2500 has a hard drive, The 2000xl has a scsi hard drive. My point is you already own a 2000xl which I know u paid a pretty penny for. Why would u sell it for damn near half the price and pay $2000+ dollars for a machine thats the same or just slightly better? Its not worth the time money or the hassel in my opinion. Im not hating on tha 2500 but its not worth it to me. It does look cool though

its funny. I have a feeling most mpc2000xl users hate that shift keys on the pads thingy. I **** hate it. however, ITs something you could get use too.

I dont like the T.C. button. I like on the 2xl how you can see your timing quantize on the main screen.

the filter thing is big, especially when you have the ability to resample your outs and filter again. Plus (I own a mpc4k) I have to admit that an internal harddrive **** rocks compared to zip drive/any drive.

the overall feel of the mpc2xl I definately like better, even compared to my mpc4k...........but the features out way "getting use to certain features" such as the shift on the pads thingy. Basically you are still gonna get that mpc feel.

You can control filter changes in realtime and do all that extra stuff on the XL also. You just have to buy a sampler that can do what you need it to do. Buy a z4 sampler, and you can make your mpc2000(xl) behave just like an mpc4000.. and I bet a used z4 ain't $2000!

I have an MPC2000xl and an S2000. I'm looking to consolidate. I plan on selling my 2000xl and s2000 and using that money to buy a 2500. I just want to make sure the 2500 has all editable parameters as the S2000 if not more.

ehhh, personally i think its all hype, people just wanna have the lateist greatist ish, without really thinking how its gonna impact their production

dont get me wrong the 2500 has some nice features but IMO its nothing thats gonna impact my production style profoundly by stepping up from my XL

IMO you would be much better off ivesting in a Fantom X rack. With my fantom X rack/MPC 2xl combo i have the same features as a 2500 plus much much more(better filtres, effects, sounds etc..) With a fantom rack you can transfer sounds back and forth between your mpc via CF card casue the fantom has a CF card reader. This means you have all the re-sampling filtering options at your disposal plus dope sounds. The sampler on the fantom rack is dope, realtime timestreatch, parameter filters etc.. the works....

Buying a fantom rack would be approx the same price as selling ur XL and upgrading... IMO thats a much better investment.

Im not saying an upgrade down the road aint a good idea( i will eventually) but honestly if your serious about your actual music and not into buying new sh*t just casue its out, the 2500 really aint worth and upgrade for an XL owner.

Personally if your gonna get a new mpc go all the way wit a 4000 (or its replacment)

I love the 2000xl but it is missing some features that would improve on it. Like keygroups, the qlink sliders and knobs, High, low and band pass filters, LFOs, grid editing, layering 4 deep. I personally don't like roland filters. I always liked Akai's filters. The 2500, I feel, should accomodate me with drum prgramming as well as Piano line and bass lines in an easier way than the 2000xl. The 2000xl is great for drums, but I want something that can do other instruments as well. I know it's possible on the 2000xl but too pain in the assish. Like there is no way to make a monophonic bass program and control the filter cutoff in realtime. I've pretty much made up my mind and I'm going to get the 2500 not because it's new but becasue its got everything I was looking for when I originally bought my 2000xl. Expensive shite though.

thats cool, it sounds like you have done your research which is important. In the end you gotta do whats best for you,
i just wanted you to realise that there are other options out there then spending that kind of cheese on a machine. IMO the roland filters on the X are dope and like i said I can do everything that the 2500 can do and more with the xl/fantom rack combo,

but in the end your the one making the tracks so go wit your gut...

Nope, it's not a full feature sampler

What is it missing then?

I don't think that the 2500 has key group like the 4000. I haven't got mine yet but i can tell you tomorrow THAT IS WHEN I GET MINE I AM PUMPED. But don't quote me on the key group.

Checked out the 2500 today.... MY verdict for right now is no thanks. The filters are not as nice as the S2000's filter expansion that I've got already. Not consolidated like I had hoped, but no more money needs to be spent at this time which is good.
