Quick tips on sussing out o.g.s/reissues

For example, whats the first thing you look at if your not sure if a record is an original or an (old) reissue?

usually the print date on it

REs often have a number code on the top front cover, or a mysterious lable logo (on the back) you never heard about before..

ive found that alot of "old" reissues (reissued a few years after the release date) will often state somewhere that it is a reissue. maybe just a sticker on the front, or within the notes of the back if its reissued on another label. "previously released on ____", but ive also had a hard time tellin reissues from ogs, if its too good to be true then i just assume its a reissue

i occasionally come across dealers who try to push reissues as ogs. kinda hard to believe your sealed sun ra for $10 is an og buddy

Look at the inside of the sleeve. If the blank white part inside the cover has turn yellowish, it could be OG maybe........but if it's still super nice and bleached white, you know it's a reissue.

A lot of the old covers were actually brownish on the inside like cardboard.
Most of the newer ones are stark white.

That's one of the first things I look at.
Not 100% accurate, but gives you a good guess.

1) upc code

2) weather the paper sleeve is yellowing or new and white

3)it just doesn't matter, unless the price is at issue

this works most of the time.


however, for authenticity, manufacturers often will print it exactly the same as the original .


for the most part, re-issues will include every printing date

^^ thats what i'm talkin bout there's an original date then the re-issue date it will read something like this

1974copyright symbol1980copyright right after i got some prizim records that are reissued on cold-chillin they have it like that but for the year the came out of course
