classic i really enjoyed this video. i do not have any hardware equipment and am on a tight budget and was looking to get an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile and a Nord Modular G2 sound module (rack). i already have an Evolution 49key Midi controller and all the software.
i have a couple of questions and i hope you can get them answered, and if you can't i will just post it as a new topic or something.

ok. so when i get the firewire box, will my PC speakers still be able to play sound that is on the computer? or will the M-Audio handle everything? i have a 5.1 PC speaker setup so i cant plug them into the soundcard box.
i was thinking i can use headphones (connected to the soundcard box) when playing the sound module, and once i record i can let the 5.1 logitech PC speakers take over? (i know i should get monitors but i will have to save some money first).

secondly, can i ask what holes you plugged the cables in (i mean on the soundcard box from the monitors)?
as you can tell i am a n00b but i really have done some research but i still am not sure on the topic of the speakers...

and is it in some way possible to let the PC speakers play everything as i'm playing? probably not i would say
and last question, if i get the firewire sound card box, will my PC sound card still be able to co-exist with the new one? i really don't want to buy monitor speakers right now (and i have very good headphones) but i don't want the other PC users (my family) be disadvantaged because the old PC soundcard doesnt work because of the new one.

i know its a lot but i hope you can find the time to answer! i really want to get to buying because i have only used FL and i can't wait to get to use a proper Rack. thanks a lot

Yes, u can use ur PC speakers or the 410, just route the audio correctly, thew the software mixer...

1/4 inch cables from moniters to the soundcard, yea you really need to to your reseach casue these questions can be easily answered wit a little digging

It depends on how u route ur audio, there are ways around it but it gets pretty tricky and its really not worth trying to explain till u get the stuff infront of you and trying it yourself. You proboly wont have direct playback on ur PC speakers but u can record something and play it back

YEs they can co exist i still have my old soundcard in my pc which plays sound to my PC speakers. When ever u want an applcation to play sound u just choose which soundcard u want the audio to be routed to(from the driver list in the application

I dont mind helping but sounds like you really need to get your researxh on casue these are pretty basic questions that can be answered wit a minamal amound of reading...

thing is on my Radium I have 2 Midi outs (keyboard and USB)and no midi ins...

how in the hell do I communicate...with my MPC 1K and my S1000 at the sametime?

Just follow my setup and replcace my motif with ur S1000

i really don't want to turn this into a "ask Classic your questions" thread, but i just need to figure this next thing out because it has been bugging me and the guy at my local music shop (mostly about guitars but theres sound modules etc) wasn't of any help at all today.... i also searched on google but all i got was jargon about radio broadcasting

you know you have the M-Audio firewire 410. it has 1/4" unbalanced outputs and 1/4" line level inputs.
the M-Audio firewire audiophile i was looking to get has RCA line outputs and RCA line inputs.
the M-Audio firewire solo is another one i just saw at the music shop, and it has 1/4" balanced line outputs and 1/4" unbalanced line inputs

im just so confused because eventually, i just want to be able to connect monitors and racks (when i get more than one rack i will get a mixer) to the thing but theres so many different connections...
if you can give me a website about the different connections and what goes with what and what cables i will need to buy, i would really appreciate it. i was really looking forward to getting everything next month but i am so confused about the soundbox connections

actually i rang the shop up again and they were pretty helpful, i got somebody else that wasn't just a salesman, they actually knew something. it seems balanced is better, but even if something is unbalanced (as long as its 1/4") or even RCA, it can still be used. there are RCA to 1/4" cables so i guess these could all be hooked up to monitors and everything anyway.
is this all correct? with RCA to 1/4", you only need to buy the right cable, no 'converter' machine needs to be used like with coaxial to something (i forget what he said).
anyway i will get the firewire audiophile and i will connect the rack to it right away (using a converter cable) and start making music!

Just look at the specs of the soundcard, the 410 takes 1/4 inch cables. you can go with those, if you have some gear that has rca cables you can use 1/4 to rca cables.

Dont make it more complicated then it is man.... ur thinking way to much just get the cables that match your gear inputs/outputs

Class, I dont mean to bother you, great video by the way. I just recently got a synth rack (Korg Wavestation SR) I have everything hooked up correctly, I can hear everything, but I can only track out the sounds that were created from my MPC, and none from my Rack. I have a 1/4" cable from the 1st output of the rack to my mixer (So I can hear it playing). I have tried hooking up 1/4" cables from my synth rack to soundcard, mixer to soundcard, etc, but nothing seems to work. I've even tried putting the output of the synth to the instrument input on my soundcard but that didnt work. I'm sure I can figure out a way to record the instrument while I'm playing it (real time) in Cubase, but what I want to do is record the sound from the sequence on the MPC. Sorry if this pisses you off. Peace.

Your tutorial is very helpful great job. I have the motif 6 and the mpc2000. I looked at your setup on the video and I have my done correctly. I have been playing musical instruments for as long as I was able to hold them. I play guitar and also piano by ear so the motif is very beneficial. But i am completely new to the mpc. I noticed you had an external mixer in the video. Do i really need one of those. and also I noticed that on my MPC, my drums are off, I tried using the cursor to change that but it is not working. I am completely dumbfounded. I know my motif well But its just getting the two to sync is where Im having problems. In your video you used the rack and go the same sounds on both. Am I missing something?

You just need to learn the MPC's sequncer, your drums are off proboly casue you have the wrong qunatize settings(im assuming) basically you gotta take the time out and figure out exaclty how the mpc sequcner works. Once you get the hang of it you will see how DOPE and powerful it is. It is MUCH better then the motif sequncer.

Having a mixer is not necassary but i highly reccomend it if you plan on going the hardware route, its an efficent way to route all your audio to your soundcard...

Anyway what your saying dosent really make sense cause if you hear it you should be able to record it...

Run everything to your mixer (mpc and korg audio) then run the audio from the mixer to the soundcard. Dont run audio from the korg direclty to the soundcard . RUn everything to your mixer Follow the tutorial...
